Artists have long been drawn to the stunning town of St Ives due to the special quality of the light which bounces off the white sand and reflects the surrounding clear blue sea. This year we are extremely proud to be working with the renowned St Ives School of Painting as they celebrate their 75th Anniversary.
The St Ives School of Painting have been running short art courses in the historic Porthmeor studios since 1938. With a core team of local contemporary artists they provide quality tuition to students of all levels from beginner to those with more experience. All art materials are carefully selected and provided, making this an ideal opportunity to enjoy a hassle free art holiday.

Landscape courses – working both in the landscape and in the large studio overlooking the beach:
6th May: Lanyon’s Landscape
£36 (1/2 day painting workshop)
Students will initially be sketching in the landscape then develop their work in the studio using acrylic paint and collage.
8th May: Exploring Forms
£68 (1 day Painting workshop)
Includes a visit to Barbara Hepworth before returning to the studio to develop paintings using mixed media and acrylics
15th – 17th May: A Bigger Picture
£210
Inspired by David Hockney’s 2012 show at the Royal Academy, this course will take a bold and spontaneous look at a woodland landscape using joyous colour and simple expressive marks. Students will take a ‘journey through a landscape’ and return to the studio where they will expand their work to form a bigger picture. Tutor: Marion Taylor.
22nd -24th May: Out in the Elements
£210
This will be an exhilarating opportunity to be immersed in the dramatic Penwith Landscape. Time will be spent painting expressively out in the landscape (weather permitting) using acrylics and mixed media. Back in the studio students will work on developing a personal responsive approach. Tutor: Paul Wadsworth.
