On Saturday 1st December we kicked off the festivities by participating in the annual St Ives Christmas Lantern Parade. This much-loved local event is held on the first Saturday of December each year, and this year we happily participated with our own bespoke lantern. The fabulous lantern crafters involved in the event created a unique deckchair lantern in our famous shade of blue.
Despite the rain, our lovely Commercial Director Mandy Spencer, along with her excited daughter Evie, and St Ives Property Manager Roz Smith were delighted to be a part of this special event. They donned their waterproof coats, lifted the lantern and joined the parade. Although the rain worsened, the procession continued, determined not to let the weather dull the festive spirit.
Crowds lined the streets, wrapped in hats and scarves, mulled wine and chestnuts in hand from the local stalls; all eager to see the creative lanterns before the big Christmas tree light switch-on.
Music sounded from the fabulous samba band and onlookers ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ at the lanterns passing by. Local schools and businesses involved should be proud of the fantastic turn out, despite the weather.
If you’re in St Ives next year, be sure to attend the parade, it’s one of the first Christmas events in Cornwall and is sure to get you in the festive spirit!
