After a picturesque drive through winding Cornish lanes, we arrived at The Fern. As we made our way down the driveway, we were welcomed by beautiful views across the north Cornwall countryside that reach across to the very edge of the county!
The stunning house makes the most of the location, with vast patio doors, a terrace, a hot tub, and even a hobbit hut all overlooking the far-reaching views!
We arrived to find homemade scones, jam, and clotted cream waiting for us in the beautifully crafted kitchen, and with milk in the fridge, we started our visit with a cream tea before heading out to explore the grounds. There’s so much space for children (and dogs!) to play and explore, and with the spacious lounge, pool table, and hot tub, there is something for everyone. A soak in the beautiful copper bath is a must, bliss!
The pretty village of Whitstone offers a taste of rural Cornish life and escape from the hustle and bustle. With leafy lanes dotted with cute cottages and working farms that give way to miles of green fields and rugged woodlands. Wander to the village shop, with nowhere to be a in hurry!
Just twenty minutes from The Fern is the iconic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach, so we headed out for a dip and stroll along the sand, backed by colourful beach huts! The expansive sea pool was built by locals in the late 1920s and is popular all year round, and although busy, it is big enough for everyone to enjoy a swim without feeling overcrowded. After a rejuvenating paddle, we enjoyed a hearty lunch at Life’s A Beach, a relaxed beachside café serving burgers, loaded fries, fish & chips, and more! The popular surfing beach at Widemouth Bay is less than fifteen minutes drive away too.
We returned to The Fern for an evening sundowner on the terrace and dip in the hot tub, as the sun set beneath the trees. We headed to bed feeling relaxed, and all slept soundly!
Waking up to a rainy Sunday morning, we sipped coffee under the cover of the terrace, listening to the raindrops before breakfast. A Sunday roast at The Stumble Inn, just five minutes down the road, is highly recommended, but book first as it is a popular spot.
Whether you are looking for a fun-filled holiday, a relaxing getaway, or a bit of both, The Fern has it all! The same goes for the location, nestled in the serene countryside but close enough to explore the bustling seaside spots of Widemouth and Bude! The Fern sleeps four guests and welcomes dogs, with its vast garden, beautiful views, hot tub, freestanding copper bath, and pool table it is the ultimate holiday retreat. Across the road are The Coop and The Old Egg Shed, adjacent properties that can be booked together with The Fern for larger groups; perfect for getting together with family or friends.
