November 2024

A Lovely holiday cottage in a quiet location. As a family of 4 (2 adults, a toddler and a baby) there was plenty of room and the property had all amenities we required. All furnishings are very modern and clean. We were fortunate to see the alpacas most days and at the weekend they were in the field directly in front of the property. We would recommend this property to anyone.

Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Bude Castle

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim, perfect if you’re not ready to swim in the sea. The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Dairy. We met the friendly owner Jules who introduced us to the alpacas and let our young girls take part in feeding them. We also met the pigs whilst on a wander through their grounds.

The cottage itself was beautiful, both interior and exterior with excellent quality fixtures and fittings and had everything we needed for the week.

We loved the many items included in the welcome pack! Particularly the chocolates, jam and marmalade. Very generous and was appreciated. Yum!

Our children enjoyed picking out a bedtime book from the selection in the twin bedroom. Some lovely stories and soft toys which helped them settle in.

It is situated off an extremely bumpy track but is fine if you take it slow!

Would definitely recommend this property if you’re happy to be out of the way with peace and quiet and like to stay in accommodation of a very high standard.

Aspect holiday have been excellent, they have been beyond helpful from booking and throughout the holiday. We will absolutely use again.

The old dairy has been a wonderful peaceful retreat for us. It’s such a quiet and peaceful location, but close to all the bits you need to see north Cornwall. The owners really put in great effort to make the home welcoming and such wonderful finishing touches. We look forward to returning soon!

The location of the Farmhouse was a lovely, peaceful location, and very out of the way, so well equipped it was like home from home. However, if you want a more lively holiday location this would not be the place for you.

The owner was really friendly, and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. Good decoration throughout the property and the location was great for exploring North Cornwall. The road leading to the Old Dairy is described as 'accessed via a bumpy farm track, low vehicles please proceed slowly' but in truth the road needs urgent attention. There are many potholes made worse by the inclement weather.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so pleased you had a lovely stay at The Old Dairy, and that you enjoyed exploring the local area and around North Cornwall. As you've mentioned, the access road to the property is a bumpy farm track - which may not be suitable for all cars - but we hope you agree that it is well worth taking the road slow and steady for the rural tranquility that The Old Dairy offers. Katy, Customer Services.

Our hosts at the Old Dairy were very welcoming and friendly and provided delightful arrival gifts. The property, surrounding garden and grounds were immaculate. Would highly recommend.

The Old Dairy is a delightful cottage with both character and comfort. Highly recommend as a base for exploring north Cornwall, we travelled to Bude, Boscastle, Port Isaac & Padstow.

The owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome at The Old Dairy which is in a great location for exploring the North Cornish coast.

We loved our stay at the Old diary, a great first holiday with our dog as an addition this year.

The property was well equipped and the surrounding countryside was lovely, a good base for exploring Cornwall further, we visited Boscastle, Tintagel, Bude all close to the cottage, look forward to coming back to Cornwall soon.

We had a fantastic time at the old dairy. Felt like a home from home, and the owners were so lovely! Peaceful area with only farm animals to be heard, we will definitely be back for our next holiday!

We had a great time at the Old Dairy. It’s a delightful place, refurbished to a high standard. A really quiet and peaceful spot. There were some lovely touches with a great welcome pack, not just for us but for the dog too. A great base for this part of North Cornwall and we would definitely recommend.
