Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

A lovely cottage in a great location. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

We’ve stayed at Morgelyn several times. The cottage is in a great location - less than a minute’s walk to the beach - and is always clean and cosy. We’ll definitely be staying again!

We enjoyed our stay at Morgelyn for 4 people and 1 dog. A very cosy home very close to the Harbour and bus service to Penzance. Jenny Dawson Kent.

We have stopped in this cottage 3 times. It was really good as usual, and aspects holidays we have been using them for 11 years and we go 3 times a year to cornwall

We had a wonderful stay at Morgelyn. Beautiful house, clean, comfortable, warm and cosy. Very central in Mousehole but tucked away, so it was quiet.

Morgelyn Cottage in Mousehole is just wonderful- has everything you would expect from a fisherman’s cottage - just loved it, ample space for four adults, and the decor throughout is lovely, a home from home in many ways…

Overall this is a really lovely and comfortable cottage that is spotlessly clean and in a wonderful part of Mousehole. I am already looking for a date when we can return to the cottage as it is one of the best we've stayed in.

However parts of the kitchen were really quite grubby - the cutlery drawer, the oven ( which smelt horrible) and the pot of kitchen utensils, which still had food on them. I realise that this was probably an oversight and am certain that the issue will be resolved now that I have written this review. The problem is that I really don't like putting negative stuff in reviews if it's something that is easily resolved. However, I contacted Aspects three times and no-one has yet got back to me. Luckily I always take some spare cutlery away with us, just in case.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. We hope you had a pleasant stay in Mousehole though we are sorry to hear there were some areas of the kitchen that weren't up to the usual high standards. We take all guest feedback very seriously and have been in touch via email both before and after your review was submitted, but given your comments, we are worried that perhaps this has gone into a spam folder. We are so sorry that you have been left thinking that we have not tried to reply. Thank you for bringing it to our attention so that we could follow this up, and sorry again that you have not received the emails that had been sent at the time. Lucy, Customer Services

Excellent and easy booking through Aspects Holidays. Cottage and parking was excellent. Instructions and arrival information provided was easy to read and understand. Cottage was beautiful and in a quite location. Beds extremely comfy, and cottage was lovely and clean on arrival. Thanks Aspects, we’ll definitely be booking again.

This was our 2nd stay at Morgelyn and this time we stayed for 2 weeks and loved every minute of it. Morgelyn and Mousehole are so lovely we've already booked the cottage again for next year.

Lovely cottage, quiet position, lovely decor, big white towels, nice bedding, well equipped kitchen, very cosy living room, I found nothing to dislike and will be returning at later date.

A gorgeous cottage in a gorgeous location. We loved our stay, perfect for a family of four. Thank you!

Lovely cottage, snug but cosy and very quiet for the time of year that we stayed. All comforts taken care of and although a small wood burner is installed, it kicks out a good amount of heat and was also really nice that the cottage had its own supply of logs (we didn't have a limited supply and therefore we didn't have to buy more during our stay). Also it was really handy having two bathrooms upstairs and all in all we would stay again.

Thanks so much for the hamper Aspects it was really generous and contributed greatly to the festive feel

Morgelyn is a lovely welcoming cottage. It is nicely decorated and comfortable, very well equipped. Parking is an issue, which I understand is a challenge due to the location. You have to buy a 24 hour ticket everyday that doesn't guarantee a space, so if you go out and come back (despite paying) and there are no spaces it is basically hard luck, the cost adds up over the week. The harbour and the Ship Inn are not far away. It was a peaceful week, only encountered one very rude local that made it clear he detested "Emmets" and second homeowners! Aside that Morgelyn is lovely.

We are glad that you enjoyed this lovely property. It has so much character and is in such a great location, right in the heart of the village, just a stroll from the cafes, quaint shops and of course the harbour. These old fishing villages weren't designed for today's traffic though, so the roads are narrow and many properties in the village do not have parking outside or near them, so you will need to factor in parking costs. We hope that you had a great time exploring this area and hopefully we will see you back again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Cottage is in a good location but feels a little hemmed in as lane between opposite properties is narrow. Lovely bastions and bathrooms but living space quite small. TV very basic, would benefit from SMART tv and remote only worked sporadically! Bedrooms comfortable and bathrooms a real bonus although no soap provided. No outdoor space unfortunately.

Thank you for your feedback. Many properties in the traditional fishing villages, such as Mousehole, St Ives or Mevagissey are down narrow roads and in close proximity to each other. It is part of what adds to the charm and character of these towns and villages, and what so many people visit them for; but we appreciate why staying in these locations will not always be for everyone. For many though, being right in the centre of this charming village, just a short stroll from the harbour, quaint shops, and cafes, is worth compromising on outside space and being in such proximity to other properties and the little streets through the village. We know that most people are used to Smart TVs these days, but not every property comes equipped with these, so if that is something important for you, if you are looking to return to Cornwall, you can always check with the team if it is not already stated on the website. We will always be happy to check if there are smart TVs in a property for you. We also wanted to apologise that you had not been left hand soap. That feedback has been passed on to the housekeeper and we will get her to replace the batteries in the remote. Thanks again for taking the time to send in your helpful comments and we hope to see you back here again. Tanya, Customer Services

Pleasant cottage in good and quiet location with quick access to harbour and restaurants. Great to have two bathrooms and showers were excellent. Clean with good bed linen and towels and thoughtful welcome pack . Fresh attractive decor and well appointed with modern windows. We enjoyed our stay and Mousehole delightfully peaceful in the evening and early morning. Parking nearby could be difficult but not impossible if you wanted to move and use your car during the day.

Beautifully furnished cottage situated right in the centre of Mousehole. Fantastic fish restaurants nearby. Everything you need for a fabulous holiday. For information, if you have a dog, they are not allowed on the beach/ or harbour quayside and there is very little green to walk them on- but plenty of dog friendly beaches nearby to visit by car.

A great little cottage with 2 lovely double bedrooms. Very well equipped with everything you need and stunningly clean. Perfect location - along a quiet little lane yet just around the corner from all the local amenities and the harbour front with such wonderful views.

Excellent cottage, great position. Recommend to anyone.

We had a lovely time at Morgelyn Cottage. It was warm, comfortable and cosy. Everything was provided and it was in a great location close to the harbour, pub and shops. The little front room is small for four people but was fine for the two us. We paid for parking (£5 each day) at one of the harbour car parks although when we got there the machine would not take card payments. This had been sorted out the next day but may need to take some change. There was plenty to do in the vicinity and we would love to come back one day.

We are glad that you enjoyed this lovely, cosy cottage and thank you for your tip on bringing change for the car park. It's certainly not a bad idea to have a bit of change, just in case. Whilst the sitting room can accommodate 4, with a 3-seater sofa, armchair, and a window seat, it may feel a little small if you are used to a lot more space and so may not suit all parties of 4. We try to give an accurate representation of the size and layout of all properties within our photos and descriptions, so hope that we have achieved that in this case, but we will continue to monitor feedback. We are glad that it worked so well for you and hopefully we will see you here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Fabulous little cottage in perfect location. Close enough to a quiet car park but still in the heart of Mousehole. 2 bed, 2 shower property with everything you need for a perfect stay. No stair gates so maybe not ideal with young children and no outside space. Very clean and thoughtfully well presented, felt very welcome! We had a wonderful relaxing romantic November break with our little dog and would love to book again. Highly recommend.

Lovely cottage, only seconds away from everything. Bed was amazing, I would suggest that if you want to eat in the ship inn or restaurants book up, as we tried 4 times to book pub and restaurants but no joy, as they had a shortage of staff. We had a amazing holiday, ow go to rock pool cafe beautiful views and food.we are going back in March. Aspects staff are brilliant at to mention them ??

Second visit to Morgelyn, comfortable, well equipped and good location. Especially like the large double bedroom, we used the main bathroom and my daughter and granddaughter used the second bedroom and en-suite which suited us perfectly.

It is a lovely charming cottage which is very light and airy & we had a lovely time . Mousehole is beautiful .

Tasteful and quirky cottage, with great wood burning stove and easy walk to harbour.

Excellent stay in November. Morgelyn was warm and very comfortable, good decor and well equipped. We would use it again.

Morgelyn is a very comfortable cottage located just minutes from the harbour, restaurants and shops. The bedrooms and 2 bath/shower rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The sitting room is quite snug for 4 adults but comfortable with a log burner and good selection of books. Lots of wood for the log burner at the property and overall the cottage is very well equipped with everything you may need for your stay. No outside space except a bench but it is not busy outside as Morgelyn is down a narrow path only possible for pedestrians. We had a lovely holiday with our two teenage boys and mousehole is always a fantastic place for a family holiday

This is the 4th time that we've stayed at Morgelyn and we've always been very happy with the cottage. Aspects Holidays have always been very helpful and quick to answer any queries. Would always have confidence and be happy to book with them again in the future.

Loved the cottage had no trouble parking in carpark . Roads are hard getting around but that's expected in a little Harbour village, front room is small upstairs has plenty of room and two separate shower & bathroom is a bonus. I loved staying here with just a short strool to all cafes bars & resturaunts. The Ship inn is so friendly with lovely food & the resturaunt in fore street overlooking the harbour is amazing staff & food excellent. Have to go back.

We have stayed in Morgelyn 3 times and are returning again next year. This is a lovely cosy cottage in a excellent location with everything you need for a perfect stay.

A lovely comfortable home in the centre of the village. We'll decorated and equipped. Probably the best size kitchen we've have ever encountered in a holiday home. If we stay in Mousehole again Morgelyn would be our ideal choice.

Morgelyn is a well equipped cottage, with very comfortable beds. We would certainly stay there again if we came back to Mousehole. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful village.

Beautiful cottage in Mousehole - perfectly presented, great location. We spent two lovely weeks here and will definitely be back!

Great value for money holiday, ideal location for beautiful beaches and sites of interest

My daughter and I loved the cottage as soon as we walked in the front door. The main bedroom, which I had, was finished in turquoise which is my favourite colour. The beds were very comfortable, so slept very well after spending the whole day seeing cornwall. It was only a 2min walk to the harbour and bus stop. We could not fault it and would recommend it to anyone.

Overall a comfortable stay so would be happy to repeat the Morgelyn holiday.

Lovely week in Mousehole, excellent local restaurants and lots of walking opportunities.

Another fantastic stay in Mousehole. Clean and well equipped cottage in central location. Tastefully decorated and very homely.

Morgelyn was just lovely. It is situated in the heart of the village and for a week we just felt part of the community and totally relaxed. The accommodation has everything you need and the bed was so comfy. I would recommend this cottage to relax and unwind in. Just lovely. Our dog especially liked the log burner.

Great cottage in a stunning location... you can unpack and leave your car for a week as walking and bus from Mousehole so regular. Total chill out.

Excellent beds! Very comfortable! Nice showers,

Well equipped beautiful cottage in a perfect location.

Our stay at Morgelyn was wonderful. Everything we could have wanted was there for us. With an endless supply of logs for the burner keeping us warm and cosy, to a well equipped kitchen with cream tea upon our arrival!! Nights were made lovely and warm with excellent bed linen for the perfect nights sleep. We thoroughly recommend this delightful cottage, in a fabulous location.

Being in Cornwall for the first time I spent a wonderful week at Morgelyn and surely will come back asap. See you!

An absolutely fantastic cottage. Better than we could ever have imagined. Lots of room and a great location for exploring the deepest of west Corwall.

The cottage would suit two couples because of the bedroom / bathroom configuration . It's very cosy for a winter stay and quite charming .

The cottage was very comfortable

Morgelyn is close to the heart of the delightful fishing village of

A fantastic holiday. Every aspect from the initial booking right through to the cottage and it's location made for a lovely, peaceful and atmospheric break. The cottage itself was beautiful, comfortable and had a lovely feel about it. This is the second time I have stayed at Morgelyn and am looking forward to booking again later this year. A wonderful week at Morgelyn. Thank you

I had a fantastic week at Morgelyn and found booking my holiday very easy. The cottage was perfect - very comfortable and with everything you could possibly need for a great holiday.

The cottage is gorgeous, very well equipped, furnished and decorated to a high standard. Perfectly situated, close to the sea and all other amenities. Morgelyn and Aspects Holidays will be highly recommended to our friends and family. Thank you.
