Holidays in Sennen

Sennen is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt areas of Cornwall, famous for its unique location and beauty. Sennen is one of Cornwall's most popular surf spots, and its rugged scenery and many coves provide the perfect place to explore on a self catering holiday.

Sennen is the most westerly parish in the UK, nestled between Cape Cornwall and Land's End. Part of the village; the mediaeval church of St. Sennen with its low granite tower, the school, and the First & Last Inn are at the top of the cliff; with some older cottages 300 feet below by the quay, along with the Old Success, a seventeenth-century inn.

Sennen Cove is still a fishing village and home of Sennen Lifeboat. Established in 1853, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution`s Sennen Cove Station is situated just one mile northeast of Land’s End.

If you want to spot a bit of wildlife during your holiday in Sennen, basking sharks and dolphins are a common sight off the coast of Sennen. Join our friends in the water and head to Sennen Cove which is renowned for its great surf and friendly atmosphere. Or take a drive to Gwenver Beach, less than a mile from Sennen Cove and watch the sunset - a truly spectacular sight. Read more about Sennen holidays and Gwenver beach on our blog post about Sandy beaches in West Cornwall.

Top tip

Spend the festive season in Sennen and take part in the annual Christmas day swim!

Surfing in Sennen

Sennen is a prime location for surfing in Cornwall. With swell coming in from the Atlantic, the surf is good all year round and can be better than the more crowded surfing destinations such as Newquay. With two surf schools based at Sennen you'll be in good hands when it comes to learning the ropes.

Beach & coastal walks

Take a walk along the coast from Land's End to the beautiful and hidden Nanjizel beach; one of Cornwall's most spectacular beaches. Porthcurno is also only a short drive away with its beautiful beaches and the breathtaking Minack Theatre, showing regular outdoor performances throughout the summer months.

South from Sennen Cove you can walk the coastal path to Land’s End. Just over a mile as the chough flies, but all along the south-west coastal path you must allow for the uphill stretches and twisty bits of headland which make the walks longer.

Whitesand Bay, white as the name suggests, stretches northwards from Sennen Cove to Gwynver beach. Gwynver is accessible from Whitesand at low tide; and down steep steps from Trevedra Cliff at high tide. On New Year’s Day it’s become a bit of a tradition for hardy folk to jump into the Whitesand waves for a swim. The south-west coastal footpath runs along Whitesand behind the dunes. No dogs are allowed on the beach between 15th May and the 30th September, between 10am and 6pm.

Although it feels tucked away in the far west, Sennen self catering holidays are perfect for exploring West Penwith.

Things to do near Sennen

Roundhouse & Capstan Gallery
A unique circular gallery and converted netloft. It was originally used for housing a winch to haul boats up from the beach. Visit www.round-house.co.uk for more info.

Longships Lighthouse
The iconic Longships Lighthouse sits on Carn Bras, the biggest in a ribbon of jagged rocks just offshore. It appears curiously tall when seen from the road approaching Land's End. Just for a moment Longships seems to have landed at the holiday complex but it's all an illusion of topography. The galleon and helicopter might be set in cement in Land’s End square but the lighthouse is exactly where it should be, a mile off shore.

Land’s End:
Sennen Church is about a mile from the Land’s End Visitor Centre, where you can find Land’s End Hotel & restaurant, First & Last House, shops, cafe, exhibitions. It is famed for the signpost, at which you can have your photograph taken as one arm says Land’ End and the other your home town. There are weekly firework displays, special events and family entertainment. The best approach to the complex is via the coastal path, the sea views are magnificent. On an overcast day the visitor centre has much to occupy children.

Apple Tree Café, Trevescan
When self catering in Sennen, a place not to be missed is The Apple Tree Café at Trevescan, a left turn just before Land’s End. Home of Nick’s delicious home-made bread. It’s family friendly, amazing cakes, tea garden. A perfect place to meet before walking or after walking or probably before and after.

From the Apple Tree Cafe, you can walk into Land’s End; you can walk across the fields to the coastal path. All you need is the O/S Pathfinder or O/S Explorer 7 (Land’s End, Penzance and St Ives). If you can find one, get a copy of a book called ‘West of HayleRiver’ by Gerald and Sylvia Priestland. It is brim-full of walks, pictures and information about places and legends across the whole of West Penwith.

Farmers' Market
Every Tuesday, Sennen holds its very own farmers' market, perfect for stocking up on local produce when staying in a self catering cottage. Find out more on our blog: The Best Farmers’ Markets in West Cornwall

Fabulous location. Stunning view. We had a wonderful week!

Fantastic position in lovely setting with unbelievable views from virtually every room and easy access to facilities and Coastal path. This was a dream holiday home suitable for a large family gathering, that met all our expectations and definitely had the wow factor.

Chy Ryn is in a fantastic location with views of Cape Cornwall and Land's End, and easy walking distance of everything that Sennen Cove has to offer. You can walk to Land's End from the house and enjoy the views from the cliff top. The house is very comfortable and homely with everything you need for a holiday. There is plenty of parking space for several cars if needed. We all loved our stay at Chy Ryn and would happily return for another holiday.

Location and views are king at Chy Ryn. Breathtaking. Being detached with plenty of parking is a real bonus. Very spacious. Overall, an amazing stay with a few niggly points. The front bedrooms were a bit musty. Extractor fan wasn't working in the first bathroom. The door to the balcony in the upstairs bedroom were difficult to open and close, the blinds in this room need replacing. Some mould in the solitary shower. A clean house with lovely bedding and towels. The above niggles didn't spoil our holiday and were quite minor points really. We would stay again!

Thank you for your review; we are delighted you had such a lovely time in Sennen; we agree - it really is quite breath taking, especially, with the glorious sunsets. We were sorry to hear there were some areas of cleanliness that were not up to the standard that both you and we would expect, had we been aware at the time, we would have loved to rectify these for you as quickly as possible to get your holiday back on track although, we are glad to hear it didn't spoil your stay in anyway and you would love to return, we look forward to it! Another fabulous holiday at Chy Ryn ! Perfect location for enjoying the sea - swimming and surfing and coast path walking. The picture window means we can enjoy the ocean view in all weathers! Very grateful - we’ll be back!!

A beautiful house in an amazing setting. The views are breathtaking and you could sit all day watching it! Binoculars would have been a good added feature with the house due to the views. Well equipped property, everything we needed for cooking Christmas dinner was there. Outside furniture needs some attention or replacing. Overall would we stay again.. absolutely!

Reply from Aspects Holidays

It's great to hear you enjoyed Chy Ryn so much over Christmas, the views are so amazing it's hard to believe it's real! Thank you for your thoughts on adding binoculars, that's a great suggestion and we will pass your comments to the owner to take into consideration for future guests. It's quite possible that the outside furniture is seeming worn after some heavy winter weather, so thank you for making us aware and we will certainly look into this further. We hope we can welcome you back again in the near future for another gorgeous stay. Phoebe, Customer Services

Our first stay at Chy Run and it will not be our last.

Amazing views.

A large house but still managing to be cosy.

Well equipped meeting all of our needs for the week.

Chy Ryn is a lovely holiday home and we have often stayed here to celebrate special occasions, such as family reunions, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The location is superb, granting access to coastal paths and boasting fantastic, uninterrupted views. Visiting at the height of Storm Ciaran allowed us to marvel at the chaos and beauty of the sea, while staying warm and toasty. The house does need a few improvements, which have been fed back. We would definitely visit again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We so pleased to hear that Chy Ryn is your go-to cottage for special occasions, we can see why! As valued guests we appreciate your constructive feedback, so thank you for your suggestions on how you think the property could be improved. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Lucy, Customer Services

Chy Ryn has always held a special place in our heart. It is set up as a comfortable home away from home, allowing family members to enjoy time together or some quiet time alone. The views from all of the windows are magnificent, no matter how sunny, rainy or stormy it is. We stayed at Chy Ryn to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. The arrival of Storm Ciaran was an added bonus, as the waves were spectacular. Nothing better for a view at breakfast than the chaos of the ocean and its waves, whilst still remaining warm and cozy. The home does need a few updates, but nothing that would make it a deal-breaker. It still remains a fantastic winter destination.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Many congratulations on your 15th wedding anniversary! It was lovely to hear how much you enjoyed another holiday here and what a spot to enjoy the views of that storm. It must have been a pretty spectacular sight from there! Your comments are all passed on to the property owner for their consideration, so thanks for the helpful feedback and hopefully we will see you back again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Chy Ryn is a beautiful cottage in an amazing location. It has a large living and dining area with spectacular views and is very well equipped. Ideal for families, we have stayed on many occasions and always had a great holiday.

Lovely house and lovely view. Easy to overlook worn items when the location is so good.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Chy Ryn, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the fabulous view and prime location. After such a long, busy season, there can be a bit of wear, so please rest assured that your feedback will be passed on to the property owners. Thank you for the helpful comments and we hope to see you back soon. Lucy, Customer Services

Our third visit to this very special spot in Cornwall. We love coming here whatever the season and weather. We spent many happy eveings socialising at the big dining room table and eating our fill. A great place for extended family holidays. Hope to visit again soon.

Best location in Sennen Cove. Wonderful views yet still within east walking distance of the beach and local amenities. We have been visiting Cornwall in all seasons for over 40 years and had the worst weather ever, fortunately Chy Ryn was a great place to retreat to and comfortably accommodates 10.

Property was amazing . Are family have booked with aspects / Cornish home holidays for many many years and stayed in so many lovely places . But this place was the best . Great location, amazing home and would be booking to stay here again

This is a spectacular holiday house! You really can’t beat its location and views. Very comfortable, and well decorated. Sennen Cove is a delightful village with an incredible beach and great walking

A beautiful property! Stunning location and views are breathtaking.

Lovely location but the house is definitely designed for a big party. Will visit again for sure.

Incredible finds are best secret!

Stunning position!

CHY RYN LOCATION COULD NOT BE BETTERED, REMARKABLE VIEWS THAT ARE TOTALLY INVIGORATING. The property has plenty to offer a larger family or group. Plenty of parking and facilities. A special place for return holidays.

Brilliant family holiday at this lovely house. The views are amazing and it is only a short walk to the beach. There was plenty of space for the 9 of us that stayed here and it was very well equipped -plenty of cups, crockery, glasses etc and a huge fridge/freezer We had a problem with the dishwasher but it was fixed a few hours after I reported it

We absolutely LOVE Chy Ryn. This is our fourth visit and we had another wonderful holiday. The property is perfect and together with wonderful location has something for each of our now grown-up family group members and partners. Wonderful opportunities for reading and relaxing, as well as coast path walking from right outside the door. Some of the best opportunities for swimming and surfing in Cornwall. We are all looking forward to visiting again as soon as possible - at the latest in 2023! Aspects service excellent as always.

Chy Ryn is an amazing place to stay and we will return year after year for as long as we can, as we have done since 2011.

A beautiful property with amazing views. Lovely pub in the village. Beach is less than a 5 minute walk away. Sadly the dishwasher, outdoor lighting and jacuzzi bath weren’t working for our stay. This was disappointing but the views cannot be beaten!

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We were so sorry to read that these were not working during your stay. I can see that the team in Penzance are now getting all of this sorted out with the property owner. We hope that you still had a great time here despite this. Tanya, Customer Services

Chy Ryn is a beautiful property in a wonderful location, ideal for family holidays. We have stayed there on numerous occasions and will be back. The service we have received from Aspects has always been excellent.

We have booked Chy Ryn 5 times over the last 7 years and love the location. This house has the best view of the ocean ever and love getting up early just to sit by the window and watch the waves as the sunrise. We have always found Chy Ryn to be comfortable and large enough for our family holidays it also has a great outdoor space with access onto the rocks to look at the wild life.

We will defiantly be booking again.

Aspects look after their quests very well, including when something goes not to plan. The property Chy Ryn at Sennen Cove is an escape from the pressures of life. I am loathe to give it a good review because you will all want to stay there and then I won't be able to rebook it! It is perfect with wonderful views. The sea was calm while we were there, but it would be spectacular in wilder weather. For bird lovers, the cornish choughs paid us regular visits. The property is spacious and comfortable and the master bedroom is heaven. It is a pleasant walk to cafes, restaurants and pub and the shop provides anything you may need. I will be booking another holiday here soon.

Lovely location, excellent views and private. The house is well furnished and comfortable and we had a really relaxing holiday, if fact we only took the car out twice in the week and that was to eat out. Thoroughly recommended for that 'special' holiday!

I don't want to leave a review because it is really hard to book Chy Ryn so I would like to keep it a big secret!

A lovely location, easy to fall in love with.

Chy Ryn is in such a wonderful location that we have been on holiday there every year for over 10 years and can never have enough of it. Mrs N Worcestershire

Chy Ryn ...a fantastic house , stunning location . Comfortable .

Always a wonderful visit.

The photos do not do this property justice . It’s awesome, we found ourselves sat by the large window in the living for hours. The location of the property is just right. We loved the local pub & cafe. Everyone very polite, friendly & eager to please. (Food was excellent in both ). Would definitely consider a return visit. Had a lovely birthday surprise from the team @ Aspects Holidays, which was very thoughtful. Thank you

A fantastic property, in the most perfect position. I would highly recommend. We will certainly be returning in the future. The property is so spacious. It is also very warm and homely.

Lovely comfortable house , in a stunning location . Good parking . Be prepared to spend an excessive amount of time staring out of the many windows , watching the seascape.

A fabulous house, in a wonderful location. Chy Ryn is perfect for a large family holiday. Good parking available, which is much sought after in Sennen Cove.

Another amazing holiday in Cornwall with Chy Ryn as a brilliant home for two weeks. We were blessed with brilliant weather which completed our break. Totally chilled and refreshed.

Have re booked for next year - totally fantastic place and service - best place we have stayed ever - even left me a birthday card scones and cream and present. Couldn’t tear ourselves away from this beautiful place - every comfort catered for - even blankets for outside chilly evenings to prolong gazing at the sea .

Yet another wonderful holiday at Sennen Cove. This is our fourth time staying in Chy Ryn which we feel is a great place for a family holiday. Chy Ryn had everything to make our holiday comfortable and enjoyable and we will definitely be going back.

What a fantastic property, both in terms of accommodation and location. As for the view's...simply stunning.

Fantasticly located spacious and comfortable cottage with amazing views and everything you could need, run by very responsive aspect holidays. We had a great new years week with 3 couples and 3 kids.

If you want a holiday with magnificent views and comfortable accommodation for a large group of people on holiday, Chy Ryn is the best you will find.

Lovely stay at chy ryn! Second year running. Disappointed it was booked to stop us coming for a 3rd for the same week. Will definitely return! Really does feel like home. Perfect location and outstanding views.

Beautiful cottage with amazing sea views. This was our second visit to Chy Ryn. We all loved our stay very much . So much to do and see We will be back again next year!

We booked Chy Ryn as a special place to celebrate a special birthday; it did not disappoint. Every member of our family party agreed that we need to repeat the experience- soon!

Our second visit to Chy Rhyn and this holiday brought everything and more we had been looking forward to in our spring family gathering. Views from the house are exquisite and ease of access to the sea and coast path and good walking exactly what we were looking for.

Majestic sunset, turquoise blue sea, golden sandy beach, coastal paths to tred upon and a splendid short stay at CHY RYN to kick back and relax and unwind. Sky family pack with HD - Great touch - excellent looking through the sky box sets and simply passing some time whilst the night skies became illuminated with stars, and the clean crisp fresh air, Sit on the balcony and soak it in. A hidden gem.

Just another fantastic 2 weeks in Sennen. The house is ideal in location and accommodation just amazing.

Fabulous house. We have been coming to Sennen Cove for 60 years and you won't find a better place to enjoy the sunset from. Absolutely gorgeous with rocks to fish from right on your doorstep too. The kitchen is very small for a party size of 10 with only one small cupboard for your food, so if you are planning on eating in most evenings, you may wish to consider that. The bathroom to bedroom ratio is also a little limiting if you have a large party size. Overall a wonderful property that we will definitely visit again when we have slightly less people than 10!

if you like the sea and comfort you will not need to look further.

This property is absolutely beautiful with stunning views. Each of the rooms are comfortable, warm and wonderful. The village was also wonderful with an excellent restaurant called "The Beach". All in all an excellent property and service from Aspects
