Quietly nestled on the edge of St Buryan, The Old Forge is where life takes on a slower rhythm to that of city living. Start your day on the right foot by enjoying an al fresco breakfast of hot croissants with Cornish butter in the sun-filled conservatory before packing a picnic and heading out to explore an array of magical footpaths, coves and white sandy beaches. Sleeping six guests, with one bedroom on the ground floor and two further bedrooms upstairs, each boasts a comfortable bed to snuggle into after a day filled with adventure.

The Old Forge is the ideal place to escape from the world with your family. With the beautiful beaches of far west Cornwall all within a short drive, no trip is complete without visiting Porthcurno with its turquoise waters, white sand and high cliffs, plus the world renowned Minack Theatre. After sightseeing and walking, come back home and throw open the doors to the garden and let the sounds of nature fill the kitchen while you prepare a supper of locally reared beef and home-grown vegetables from the local farm shop. Comfy sofas and wool blankets encourage snug winter hibernation by the log burner, with a favourite book in one hand and a glass of smooth red in the other.

We have stayed at the Old Forge on three occasions and loved our holidays there. The property and the area is perfect for our family. We hope to visit again next year.

September 2024

The Old Forge is lovely, comfortable, accommodating property well situated in a great little village . The local shop , although not big in size , is was very well stocked with a bit of everything really & somewhere not to be overlooked before you drive to a big supermarket for the odd item . The local pub , The St Buryan Inn is cracking place for a pint & also serves some lovely food . The staff are very welcoming & friendly which is exactly what you want in an unfamiliar place. Parking at the accommodation is a bit tight, I found the best option was to reverse park into the space as the road can be busy at times , if you have an SUV , parking on the opposite side of the road might be a good option. Overall we were all very happy with our choice of accommodation & would be happy to return again sometime.

Holidays in St Buryan

For those looking to explore the west of Cornwall, the pretty village of St Buryan has plenty of foothpaths, and is close to Sennen, Porthcurno, and the fishing ports of Mousehole, Penzance and Newlyn. St Buryan is a truly peaceful place, set amongst farmland and home to a traditional Cornish community.

The centre of the village is dominated by the Grade I listed church,  which features the heaviest peal of six bells anywhere in the world! The church has the tallest tower in the area and if you’re lucky enough to be there on Tower Open Day and the weather is fine, you can see for miles.

While self catering in St Buryan, be sure to take a visit to the St Buryan Inn; a traditional county pub, serving up good pub food in a relaxed atmosphere, with a selection of Cornish ales on offer. There's also a corner shop for all your essentials whilst staying in a holiday cottage in St Buryan.

The parish is scattered with neolithic activity, such as the Merry Maiden stone circle, The Pipers standing stones, many burial chambers and ancient holy wells. Read more on the history of the area on our blog: West Penwith - Through the ages

Top tip

Be sure to pack your walking boots as St Buryan has fantastic footpaths.

Things to do in St Buryan

St Buryan is well situated to take advantage of the popular tourist attractions such as the Minack Theatre and St Michael's Mount.

Be sure to visit the nearby St Loy's Cove; a rocky beach which is accessed through a beautiful wooded valley. It's nearly always quiet too, making it great for taking in the surroundings in a peaceful location.

With all this in mind it is easy to see why this popular tourist destination is perfect for a self catering summer holiday, short break or out-of-season visit.

A lovely, nicely converted old property with ample space for our party of 4 adults and one child situated on the edge of the village though not as secluded as we’d expected and right next to a main road through the village. There is also only one very small parking space on the property. That said we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and it’s general location made it very easy to get to lots of lovely beaches and towns both around Lands end and the Lizard.

We are so pleased that you had a great stay at The Old Forge, enjoying the multiple beaches just a short drive away. Tucked away in the quiet St Buryan, the property is located near a road running through the village, but while occasional noise can be expected, overall, the peaceful sounds of nature are perfect to relax to while enjoying a glass of something!

Many of the traditional fishing villages here in Cornwall were not designed for today's traffic and parking needs, so as you have said the space can be quite tight for larger cars, but having a guaranteed space at your property is a huge benefit and we do hope that this was what you had been expecting. We very much hope we can welcome you back to Cornwall again soon. Katy, Customer Services.

Our second stay at the old forge & just as good as the first! Beautiful, clean, spacious holiday home in the perfect location!

Perfect stay in a beautiful little cottage. Plenty of room for 3 adults and 2 children. Lovely local pub and gorgeous beaches such as Porthcurno and Sennen!

A really lovely cottage in a very central location to all our favourite spots in Cornwall, very comfy and spacious cottage and had everything we needed! We would definitely recommend the old forge! :)

A beautiful well equipped home in a quaint village near to all of our favourite spots.

A perfect base for a well needed get away for our family of 4 & we can’t wait to return!

Slightly worried about the parking after reading previous reviews…spot was very tight although our designated driver managed to squeeze the Q7 in everytime (not a problem!)

Our family thoroughly enjoyed staying at the old forge for our Christmas, the property was was beautiful and had plenty of space for our family to enjoy our Christmas

Lovely cottage, away from the noise and bustle but so close to what is great and still unspoilt about West Penwith. Super to be part of a seemingly thriving village for a week. (If you are going to the Scillies, only 10 mins from Lands End airport).

An excellent location for exploring the South West tip of Cornwall as everywhere was within easy reach from St Michael’s Mount to Cape Cornwall. The 3 large bedrooms were very comfortable. The spacious conservatory was lovely. Well furnished property and well stocked in the kitchen. It would be a bit of a squeeze for 6 adults in the lounge. There are 5 adult seats & 1 bean bag. Would be fine with children. A well stocked shop in the village and good farm shop close by. We loved the area and would be happy to return here.

Excellent property in lovely St Buryan. The property met all of our expectations and was very comfortable, especially the beds which can sometimes be very uncomfortable. We used the local pub and sampled the delights of the farm shop, all good. Would happily stay at this property again

The Old Forge is finished and equiped to a good standard, bedrooms and beds are particularly good, there is some road noise in the bedrooms adjacent to the road which fortunately isn't very busy. Downstairs layout reflects the heritage of the building, easily big enough for 4 but a bit cramped for 6 guests.

The Old Forge St Buryan is a lovely property. The furnishings are of a very high standard and it feels very homely. There is everything you need kitchen wise (utensils)in the property everything has been thought about. We were disappointed with outside area outside the conservatory which needs some TLC. The property is central to getting out and exploring the nearby areas. I can recommend the local pub in the village and I have to say local villagers that we met were both very friendly and helpful. Aspect holidays were very helpful and prompt on service when needed.

We are glad that you liked it here; it really is a great place in a lovely part of Cornwall, with easy access by car, to some of the most stunning beaches and coves in Cornwall. We were sorry if the outside area needed a bit of attention. The greenery around the patio can grow very quickly at times, so we will ensure that your feedback is passed on to the owner, who usually has something in place for the outside area being attended to. Thanks for letting us know. Tanya, Customer Services

We had a great holiday and enjoyed staying at the old forge, the local pub was very friendly and good food, the local shop was well stocked. Great area to stay with many good beaches to visit and places of interest.

The old forge is a lovely property and met our expectations of a much awaited holiday in Cornwall. Lovely village location with friendly pub and a village shop with everything you could need whilst on holiday. Great area to access all the wonderful coves of this area not least the wonderful Sennen Cove just a 10 minute drive away. Would definitely recommend and wish we were still there.

We stayed at The Old Forge during the last week of May. We found it to be spacious as there were only two of us, but with six adults staying it might feel less so. The garden/courtyard would benefit from some outdoor seating for days when it is too hot to sit in the conservatory. The wifi was good, there was plenty of hot water and towels and cutlery/crockery. The parking is a little tight - you are best to unload and then park over the road. The village is very nice and there is a little Londis shop plus a decent pub and a beautiful church. A few miles' drive is the farm shop. We would definitely recommend the Rock Pool Cafe and 2 Fore Street in Mousehole, (both of which we visited twice in one week),Portheras Cove near Pendeen lighthouse, all the beaches in St Ives (but get there early) as well as obvious favourites such as Porthcurno and Sennen. All in all we had good time despite disappointing weather. Thank you Aspects Holidays
