Shopping in St Ives
From books to jewellery to freshly made food, shopping in St Ives is a Cornish tradition thanks to the cobbled streets and independent shops that line them.
At The Old Bakehouse you will feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. The cottage is full of charm and has a wonderfully comfortable feel, retaining lots of its original features. The cottage is ideally placed for a traditional seaside holiday, and a brief level walk takes you to the centre of St Ives with its beaches, restaurants, and shops. The open plan kitchen and dining area will make it easy to spend that quality time together during family meals. The woodburner in the sitting room adds an air of romance and makes it a great place to cosy up in the winter months.
The property also benefits from a lovely secure courtyard where the whole family can sit and enjoy the warm evenings or an alfresco breakfast. Leave nobody behind, as one well behaved dog can also join you on your trip. The sitting room has a quirky layout but the whole family can sit close by on an evening, thanks to the sofa and television in the dining area - please refer to photos.

Fabulous cottage on a narrow and pretty lane within easy walking distance of everything in St Ives. Cottage was clean, tastefully outfitted and very comfortable for us 3 adults and 2 young children. The only thing I would say is that the sitting room area has a tiny two seater sofa and one large comfy chair. If there are more than 3 adults staying some of you will be on the sofa or at the spacious dining table adjacent to both the sitting and kitchen area - its open plan so you can hear each other.
Turn left at the bottom of the lane (2mins) and you have a great little cafe and a magnificent cake/desert shop. The lemon meringue was our personal favourite!
There was zero noise disturbance and whilst we had to report a blocked bath plug hole on day one this was rectified very quickly by the owner of the cottage.
We loved our stay and recognise that ancient buildings come with all their quirks as well as their charms. Would def recommend as a fabulous place to stay in the always stunning st. Ives ??

Narrow lanes are dotted with boutique shops, artisan bakeries, cafes, bars, and restaurants. Discover picturesque gardens, stunning coastal paths, and art galleries galore, all on your doorstep.

We stayed here last year and rebooked as this property works for us. The location in the town centre is perfect for older children/ teenagers, as are the two twin rooms. It is nicely decorated and beds are comfortable. The kitchen is large and well-equipped and the little courtyard perfect for a drink al fresco and for drying beach paraphernalia.
Miss Joy Sep 2024
Our third visit to this fabulous cottage, perfect location and had everything we needed. The outside seating area a lovely advantage to enjoy a drink or 2. The cottage is perfect on arrival and spotlessly clean highly recommend fabulous holiday ????
Mrs Willis May 2024
Lovely homely cottage, quiet part of St-Ives but convenient for majority of town and beaches. The street was quiet which made dropping off bags easy. Aspect were quick to respond to a question we had. We have two boys under 5 and they thoroughly enjoyed our week there, it was ideal for them. Would definitely visit again.
Mr Goss May 2024
Lovely comfortable cosy cottage and very well equipped to the highest standards. Super comfy beds. We loved having the outside space. Our second visit and we will be back, it is so handy for the beach and town. Great for dogs too!
Mrs Wheatley May 2024
Great cottage with very close amenities.
Miss Cooper Apr 2024
Easy booking without any problems, reminders were appreciated too. The information in the holiday home was thorough and helped us during our visit. The property was homely, with great facilities.
Mrs Ward Apr 2024
We absolutely loved The Old Bakehouse! The beautiful and well equipped kitchen area is perfect for family (and friends dropping by) and the house is very comfortable and well designed (beds SO comfy). We have always stayed in Downalong before so were a bit apprehensive about moving 'into town' but it was actually super convenient having the Co-op and the high street just nearby. As for The Three Ferrets, we didn't hear a squeak.
Ms WILKINSON Apr 2024
Great location, perfect lay out for family’s.
Mr Beswick Dec 2023
We were offered The Old Bakehouse as the accommodation we booked was unavailable last minute due to previous holiday makers damaging shower. I'm so glad we got to stay here over our original booking . We will definitely book here for future 4/6 person holiday . Special note to Nicole for all your hard work finding us new accommodation at such short notice , amazing outcome , thank you . Jayne
Mrs Kirk Sep 2023

Mr Leung Jul 2023

Mrs Willis May 2023
This is a great property - our 3rd visit. We were 4 adults but it’s a really spacious, well furnished property.
Lovely to come at Christmastime; St Ives is fab at this time of year, just the right amount of busy! And a brilliant location, everything is right on your doorstep.
Ms Thorpe Dec 2022
Had a very enjoyable stay at the Old Bakehouse, and all the staff at Aspects in st Ives were very helpful and made are stay for our 10 year Anniversary very special
Mr Warrilow Dec 2022
The property is lovely with interesting features, very spacious for my family and dog. The shower is great especially after a long day walking the SW coast path. The location means that you are in the heart of St Ives, near shops, restaurants and beaches. Ideal to leave the car and explore St Ives and the surrounding area such as Carbis bay, easily.
Mrs Boardman Sep 2022
Really good location, not too noisy at all. Kitchen was very well equipped and bedrooms were comfortable. The house was not as clean as we would have liked, with rubbish being left from the previous guests and from the cleaners.
Ms Thornberry Aug 2022

We are so sorry to hear of the property was not as clean as it should have been. That is very unusual for this housekeeper. There is a separate company who come to collect the rubbish, and sometimes they do not collect it until later in the day, so that may explain that, but if it never got collected or was just some items left in bins, we can only apologise for that. These should of course always be emptied and collected every changeover. We are glad that you had enjoyed it there but sorry again if anything had been missed for your arrival to the property. If you want a lovely cottage within walking distance from the shops, co op, cinema and beaches this is perfect. Great outdoor space for surf boards and dining outside. Highly recommend.
Mrs Giles Aug 2022
A lovely little dog friendly holiday home that's ideal for two adults. It's a very short walk (5 mins) away from the town centre and harbour beach. Plenty of towels and soap were provided. The bathrooms were very clean but the kitchen wasn't so clean.
However, just be warned about The Three Ferrets pub at the end of the street, it's very noisy at all hours, fights are frequent, and drug dealing does happen. This pub is the only reason I'd hesitate to return.
Mrs Roberts Brick Jun 2022

We are sorry to hear if any area of the property was not as clean as you would expect. That is certainly not the norm for this property, with the housekeeper usually getting very good feedback, but we will make sure that this is followed up with her. Regarding the pub, whilst some associated noise can be expected, the other things that you mention never used to be a regular or significant occurrence and have been raised and monitored by several property owners in the area since. With some persistent work with the council and police, towards the end of 2022, they have manged to enforce some changes to the pubs licencing and security, which should have a significant impact on this. We would fully expect that you would not have this kind of experience again, should you return. Tanya, Customer Services
Absolutely stunning cottage, perfect location had everything you could think of. This cottage was cleaned to a very high standard .we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return..
Mrs Willis May 2022
Lovely old cottage. Cosy and comfortable in a great location.
Mrs Moore Feb 2022
Just had a few days in this cosy cottage, wood burner worked well and we took our own logs for a continuous supply. The heating worked well (January). Great location for walking to beaches, shops and restaurants. Didn’t use the enclosed courtyard but must be great to have in the Spring/summer. Used the parking at the Rugby club, up the hill, 20 mins walk up but happy to do that with the dog and works off the holiday calories. Actually didn’t use the car every day as so many lovely walks and exploring to be done in st Ives and locally. St Ives is very dog friendly.
Mrs Rodgers Jan 2022
lovely spacious stone house in a great location for exploring St Ives without your car. Lovely kitchen and equipment (we cooked a big roast), log burner, dishwasher, washing machine. Warm in January even without using the fire. Cooking books and board games, smart TV's for login with your TV accounts. Convenient to Co-op supermarkets just 1-2 minutes away on foot. Spacious outdoor courtyard with table and chairs, accessed from the kitchen door.
Walking in from the front door there is coat hanging space and a bedroom to the left with two bunk beds. this then opens up into the living area with a lovely dining table and sofa and a nice big kitchen with great cooker/hob and equipment. The bathroom with washer/dryer is accessed from the end of the kitchen and has windows onto the courtyard. compact lounge with a smart TV and then the upstairs are two good-sized bedrooms and WC. The front bedroom has the double bed.
The property is away from busy roads and traffic. You can drop off luggage at the property but you will need to park away from the property either in the nearby council car parks £47.70 for the week or like we did find some street parking 5 minutes away up the steep hill. If you are not accustomed to town centre noise, do bring earplugs or sleep in the back bedroom (with the 2 single beds) as it can get a little noisy as people leave the 3 Ferrets pub.
Would love to come back and visit again.
Thanks
Mr McCarthy Jan 2022
Fantastic house in a great location! Really spacious and furnished and equipped to a high standard. Beautifully clean and comfortable!
This was our second time at The Old Bakehouse.
St Ives is a wonderful place to come at Christmastime!
Ms Thorpe Dec 2021
The property is fantastic with plenty of room for a family of 4-6. The outside space is a bonus and the shower is amazing. The kitchen and dining/ kitchen table are great and full to the brim of what you need!
Great location - close to the shops and amenities.
Mrs Boardman Sep 2021

The Old Bakehouse Is A Great Property Located Well Within Stives, Lots Of Space For A Family Of 5+.
Well Equipped With Everything You Need. Ideal Having The Two Sitting Areas With TVs Too!.. Extra Added Bonus Is The Sun Trap Courtyard Which Is Great To Relax in.
Mr Spence Jun 2021
First class accomodation
Mr Ludgate May 2021
A beautiful and peaceful cottage. The downstairs space was bigger then we thought and felt very relaxed. Really nicely done. Really close to shops etc but still quiet. Only thing to improve was the driving directions; I would definitely come down the street rather then up it as it is very tight and you avoid the corners by coming down.
Miss Kennedy Nov 2020
Excellent location, little outside yard, great cottage for family’s and friends Fully equipped kitchen and cosy log fire. What more do you need?
Mrs Neath Oct 2020
Lovely week away. Cottage so convenient. Spacious and great that it is dog friendly. Great shower and lovely hot water always. Unloading is tricky outside property due to narrow road so worth considering but that's just part of staying in St Ives. Owners are lovely and visited promptly when we had a loss of power in the property.
Mrs Kirby Aug 2020
Amazing place! Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs a place to stay. Such a cute cosy cottage with an outdoor sitting area perfect for summer. Right in the heart of St ives on a lovely cobbled street. The landlord and people working at Aspects were so lovely and helpful, can't really fault it!
Miss Shackley Aug 2020
Fantastic little cottage, which was perfect for our little family. It is in a great location and so cosy with the log burner on in the evenings. We will definitely be returning!
Mrs Foreman Feb 2020
We really enjoyed our week at The Old Bakehouse in January - extremely well equipped cottage which was very clean and comfortable. Great location in St Ives, and an easy walk from the train station. Great to have a log burner - our only wish was for more firewood! Very easy to book, and a very friendly team in the Aspects St Ives office.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time at this lovely cottage; it certainly sounds like it worked really well for you. Most property owners provide a starter pack of firewood and kindling which should last for at least your first fire, which we know this owner does; but you do have to supply your own after that. If you are ever returning and would like further information on where firewood can be purchased, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us. Tanya, Customer Services
A comfortable cottage. Well equipped kitchen for cooking and a lovely table and seating to enjoy a meal together. Cosy seating round the log burner but bring your own logs! The cottage worked well for 3 of us on a weekend stay. A bit noisy on a Saturday as the pub tips out!
Ms Marinho Dec 2019
Our first holiday as a family of 3 and we all loved every moment. The weather was brilliant and then to be able to come back to the Old Bakehouse was such a wonderful way to unwind. The house felt spacious, was well equipped, clean and comfy, and in a wonderful location close to so many beaches and shops. Amazing amazing week
Mrs Collins Jul 2019
We really love staying here , have done a few times perfect for our growing family
Mrs Trentham Apr 2019
Thoroughly enjoyed our few days in the Old Bakehouse. The property more than met our expectations in comfort and location. Good for a couple or larger group. Loved the kitchen/dining area and our dog enjoyed his holiday as well.
Mrs Novotny Oct 2018
All equipment & fixtures were first class.
Mrs Crimes Oct 2018
Way above expectations! We booked it fairly last minute as a kind of ‘it will do’ and it was such a pleasant surprise! We’ve been to St Ives for 8 consecutive years and stayed in a variety of places - this was among the best for our young family!
Mrs McLeish Apr 2018
A really lovely property with a very lovely kitchen and fantastic high spec equipment inspiring me to cook rather than eat out! The outside area was great to sit out in and enjoy a pre-supper drinks and snacks as well as enjoying an afternoon cup of tea whilst having a break from the hustle and bustle of the beach. Perfectly located for the harbour and shops, it's near several convenience stores and near good long term parking locations. The owners and staff at the office were really lovely when we had a bit of a hiccup and if they ever want to swap The Old Bakehouse for a small holding near Wales, we'd be more than happy to do so! All in all, it's an ideal home from home and we're looking forward to returning again sometime soon.
Mrs Kitchener Apr 2018
A fabulous cottage within good walking distance of the town and beach. Everything was provided you could possibly need. The cottage has lots of original features and we loved the log burner in the evening, so cosy.

Mr Nagiel Jul 2017
Fantastic location and great property. It had everything we needed.
Mr Williams May 2017
Bit of noise with traffic of people out of the pub on Fri and Sat nights in front bedrooms. Comfortable beds. Great well equipped kitchen, lovely living space - nice to be together in open plan areas. Stayed in 3 aspects cottages now and all have been of a very high standard.
