Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

This is a lovely, modern and clean apartment, in a modern block of just 15 apartments. Also more spacious than it looks.

Canalside was a great location, very well appointed, super clean and a great base for a very relaxing break. The weather was kind enough to enable a swim in the seapool too (definitely worth doing!) We will be back!

This apartment is situated in a great location in the centre of Bude.

No 5 Canalside - Bude

An absolutely perfect little apartment for our stay in Bude. Superbly decorated with a modern feel right next to the canal, the best location you could want with short walks to pubs, cafes and the beach. We loved the body boards left at the aaprtment which were well used at the beach and being on the canal meant we could kayak into town which was amazing. We loved No 5 Canalside and wouldn't hesitate to return! Don't delay, book this place if available.

The apartment was exceptionally clean, well equipped and is in a great location.

We would recommend this lovely apartment, from arriving and parking in your own space, to the time we left everything was top notch.

The apartment was lovely over looking the canal.

found this apartment after having our flight abroad cancelled last minute. looked fantastic in the pictures on the website and we were not dissapointed when we got there.great position next to the canal and just a short walk from 2 or 3 places to eat and drink.the apartment itself was very well equipped with everything from toilet rolls to dishwasher tablets and more. bude centre is ok for a few days but after that you need to go further out .but if you just want to relax and chill out on your patio then this ideal. would recommend.

Lovely apartment in a perfect location

Lovely apartment in a good location. All appliances/fittings really good quality. Housekeeping excellent, the place was spotless on arrival. Aspects team and owner kind and helpful with a problem we had (ours not Aspects). Wouldn’t hesitate to book with Aspects again.

We enjoyed a fabulous week at Five Canalside, unfortunately the weather was against us so couldn't make good use of the terrace, but being right on the canal the view from the living space kept us amused watching the antics of the wildlife, kayaks and fisherman to name a few. Accommodation was perfect for the two of us, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location of Bude is beautiful, a stunning coastline with a variety of beaches enjoyed by the many surfers and body boarders, out in all weathers. We enjoyed many walks along the canal stopping at The Weir Bistro for refreshment returning along the coastal path with its fabulous views. The Castle has an interesting Heritage Museum and a good coffee stop. Situated on the canal The Olive Tree is a must, excellent food and service. We'll definitely be back.

Nice location,good facilities.

Five star ?? ???????? Treatment all the way was my experience . Will detinately recommend

We had a brilliant stay at Number 5 Canalside. The apartment was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location was excellent - just a few steps to the canal for enjoying some paddleboarding and a 5 min walk to the beach and town centre.

We will definitely come back for another stay.

This is such a nice apartment with plenty of space inside and out. It's warm, comfortable, very well equipped and superbly located for the town, the beach and is only a few minutes from pubs and restaurants.

We are a family of 4 (with 2 girls of 11 and 14), we had plenty of space (and TV's!) and enough bathrooms to go around. We really enjoyed the apartment and its superb location. Great views too.

Highly recommended!

This apartment is beautifully furnished/equipped to a high standard and proved to be an ideal place to relax and chill out. The location next to the canal is tranquil but still close to the buzz of town and beach. The terrace was a bonus for relaxed evening drinks and meals.

Great apartment that had everything we needed, a real home from home. Spotlessly clean, fab outdoor space which we used loads as we had glorious weather. Great location and would love to stay again.

Superb accommodation in an ideal location for both Bude and also travelling to other parts of Cornwall

Excellent stay at this fantastic apartment, very centrally located with fantastic views across the canal. During busy months and especially with Covid I would suggest pre booking restaurants as many were booked up, we were left with little options and had to have takeaways a few nights which is not great on holiday.

Beautiful property and was simply perfect for our first family holiday! We are new parents and so it was a little daunting traveling so far with a baby however, when we arrived everything was simply perfect and stress free! The facilities were great and the kitchen well stocked so we were able to enjoy meals in and take in the view! I highly recommend for families!

Just returned from one week at this delightful property. Ideally situated right on the canal and minutes from the town and the beach. We were very lucky with the weather and the deck was perfect for breakfast in the sunshine. Enjoyed watching the activity on the canal - birdlife in abundance, fishermen, canoes, paddle boarders. Perfect setting to return to after busy days spent walking or on the beach. The apartment was very well equipped with all the necessary appliances. The apartment is ideal for a couple. Bude itself offers plenty of choice for eating out, just be sure to book ahead. It also offers great walks along the coastal path and the beach is lovely. We hope to return!
