Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Perfect holiday apartment with everything you would ever need... highly recommended.

This is a nice apartment, with an added feature of a tennis court, set in quiet surroundings. It’s set down a mostly single lane unlit country road that takes about 15 minutes to walk to the end. We found it too far to walk to the beach / town with a 5 year old, so beach / town visits had to include paying to park. I don’t think it had been occupied for quite a while, as it was full of daddy long legs, felt a bit damp and was dusty, but I’m sure Aspects will sort that out in the future with giving it another pre-occupy clean if it’s been vacant for a while. This is our 5th time with Aspects and they’re a company I’ve come to trust in service, reliability and quality of accommodation.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at One Downlands. Being in such a quiet, peaceful location does mean there's a 15-minute walk to the beach, which may suit some guests more than others, but as you have said, there is parking available nearer to the coast. We are very sorry if the standard of cleanliness was not to the high level that you would have expected, we can only apologise if any areas had been missed. Having now received this feedback, we will be closely monitoring this, so thank you for your comments. We would have been more than happy to get these areas of concern sorted for you during your stay had you been in touch, so that your stay could get back on track. We look forward to welcoming you back to Cornwall again soon! Katy, Customer Services.
