Holidays in Helford River

Helford River is a large estuary nestled between Falmouth and the Lizard Peninsula, stretching almost 50km, up to the old port of Gweek. You’ll find a plethora of hidden beaches, stunning scenery and picturesque villages.

Renowned for its micro-climate, this part of the south coast benefits from a balmy climate, where tropical plants flourish. Experience this for yourselves at one of the beautiful sub-tropical gardens on the Helford River.

With numerous walks and waterside pubs, you can spend your days exploring different parts of the river, discovering hidden creeks and ending each day at a different Cornish pub.

Did you know...

Frenchman's Creek inspired the Daphne du Maurier novel of the same name?

Things to do near Helford River

Seal Sanctuary

The old port of Gweek is at the head of the Helford River and is now home to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, a well known family attraction which rescues all sorts of unwell seal pups and sea lions, aiding their recovery and releasing them back into the wild.

Gardens

Trebah and Glendurgan gardens are close by and bloom beautifully in early spring and summer, making the Helford River a perfect location to visit all year around. With beaches stretching down on to the river side it's the perfect spot for a picnic!

Boat Trips

The best way to experience the whole of the Helford Passage is to take the to water and enjoy a boat trip, of which there are many available.

A lovely house, very clean and fresh, with plenty of room especially for a family with teenagers. A lovely kitchen with lots of extras and everything you could need if you want to cook. Great location close to some really great beaches and places to visit, Roskillys ice cream down the road and the Lizard close by and Heston is only 10 mins away for all shopping needs. All in all a very nice place for a quiet relaxing family holiday.

This is a super spacious house with a fantastic kitchen/diner and conservatory, which can easily accommodate 5 people. There is plenty of driveway parking, a secure garden and the property is in a small village with a good local dog friendly pub, which serves good food. The property is furnished comfortably and is clean and well equipped. We visited beautiful Coverack for a sunny beach day, Lizard Point, Falmouth, St Ives and Porthleven and the NT walk to Loe Bar. One of the best holiday properties we have ever stayed in.

A lovely modern home in a quiet location, a home from home Great base for discovering South coast of Cornwall, we enjoyed Falmouth especially the Sea Shanty Festival, Penzance, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project Would recommend Aspects Holidays to friends and family as their selection of properties and easy booking are great.

The Lizard Peninsula is one of England's little gems, but be prepared for narrow roads. You simply must visit the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek,it may appear to be somewhat expensive but your tickets are valid for 12months.

We had a super holiday at Meadow View . The house is very spacious , lovely and comfortable and the kitchen is one of the best equipped we have stayed at - plenty of gadgets to cook up a feast. The pub is only a 2 minute walk away and is excellent. It can get busy so you might want to book on a popular night/lunchtime. (It's website doesn't do it justice. It was welcoming, nice atmosphere and the specials are excellent ).

We walked to Frenchmans Creek from the house and St Anthonys Head . We particularly enjoyed Trelowarren - great for breakfast and lunch and the cafe at Gweek Quay also a good find. We had a magical day out to The Scillies and even flew one way with our dog - such a lovey treat. The stores at Mawgan is very well stocked and the fruit/veg/pasties at Gear Farm are excellent too.

We were extremely lucky to have wall to wall sunshine for our stay but Meadow View would have been a lovely relaxing and comfortable house to stay in even if it had been raining.
