Holidays in Gwithian

Gwithian is a beautiful area of Cornwall and is home to the beautiful Gwithian beach, a popular location for beach sports and surfers. This impressive stretch of sand is immensely popular with sand yachts and kite buggies as well as being a real hot spot for surfers of all abilities.

Gwithian is a coastal village situated in a conservation area and close to National Trust areas. Here you will find a friendly local pub, three cafes offering delicious refreshments and a surf academy. Being just a short drive to the harbour and beach towns of St IvesPenzanceMouseholePorthleven and Marazion, self catering holidays in Gwithian make for a fun packed holiday for all!

Did you know...

Gwithian forms part of a 3 mile long beach that stretches from Hayle Estuary to Godrevy!

Things to do in Gwithian

Surfing

With great surf all year round, it's no wonder it's a popular surf spot with both locals and visitors. Perfect for beginners and advanced surfers, Gwithian is an ideal place to learn and progress. With a local Surf school operating from here, first timers will be up and riding in no time.

Beaches

Gwithian Towans, Hayle Towans and Godrevy offer three miles of golden sands and the most dramatic coastline stretching across to St Ives Bay. At low tide, with such a vast amount of sand, there is plenty of room for everyone – even horses getting their daily exercise. There are large areas of rock pools and intriguing caves which are great for kids to explore. Visit in the evening and you may be treated to a stunning sunset. Read more about Gwithian Towans and other beaches in the area on our blog. It's also worth visiting the rugged cliffs at Hell's Mouth, which is just a 5 minute drive away, where you can park your car for free and enjoy a delicious cream tea in the cafe.

Foraging

Foraging is popular in Cornwall, and Gwithian Towans offers an ideal place to give it a go. Foraging lessons are available, during which you'll discover everything from how to make seaweed crisps, to picking edible flowers. It's certain to be a fun day out for the whole family. Check out our blog post on Wild Food Walks in Cornwall to find out more.

St Gothian Nature Reserve

What was once a commercial sand quarry, this site has since been declared as a nature reserve. The habitat has been improved with the addition of a large pool and other smaller pools which have been fenced off, creating a safe place for wildfowl and waders. Perfect for bird watching. Dog walkers are asked to keep dogs on a lead so as to not disturb the wildlife.

Walking

From Gwithian, you can walk the South West Coast Path all the way to St Ives, and experience some beautiful scenery along the way. Pass through Hayle and Lelant before finally arriving at St Ives Harbour. The walk takes approximately 6 hours so be sure to bring supplies!

Holiday otherwise very good - close to beach

Peaceful setting for a relaxing holiday close to local amenities

Hot tub very clean and checked everyday

A lovely, well equipped lodge. Comfortable beds and lovely well maintained hot tub. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fair Isles, Sandy Acres. Lots of lovely walks to the beach to watch the beautiful sunsets. A perfect base to explore more of the wonderful Cornwall.

A great stay

A wonderful lodge in a fantastic location. The lodge is so well equipped - it really is a home from home. The beds are really comfortable and it’s so quiet you’ll feel well rested at the end of the trip. The hot tub was a big hit with my husband and our 13 year old son too.

Perfect location for a beach and surf loving family who also enjoy exploring the coastal paths - beautiful home in a quiet spot just a short walk to one of the best surf beaches in Cornwall. The house was impeccable - extremely well equipped, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Star gazing at night whilst enjoying the hot tub was a treat and very reassuring to know it was serviced daily. Very impressed, highly recommended!

We have just returned from a lovely week at Fair Isle, we have already booked to return next year! Located in a great location for shops, restaurants and many beaches. We enjoyed some days out to local towns, as well as some more relaxed days sitting outside the lodge and using the hot tub. Our dogs loved the sand dunes and easy access to the local beach.

Just home from a wonderful stay at Fair Isle lodge, it’s a fantastic lodge fully equipped with everything we could need. Very dog friendly and have already booked to stay again next year.

A lovely 2 week stay in Fair Isle in August. Great property and location within walking distance to super beaches although the descent through the sand dunes can be very steep in places! Property was immaculately presented, bright and airy and great for 5 adults and a dog (who got very excited by the rabbits that roamed around the site). If you're holidaying in July / August you may want to check which beaches allow dogs as we found that quite limiting in the immediate area. Would definitely recommend and will be looking to return in the future.

Fabulous holiday the room and location were perfect. Will definitely stay here on our next visit and have already recommended to a friend who is booking up

An excellent property, which felt like a home from home.

Well positioned in the dunes, it’s wonderfully quiet and really relaxing. The multiple walks from the door are fantastic and our dog loved exploring.

Access to the beach is challenging and down fairly steep sand dunes, although easier access can be found at Hayle or Gwithian (a short drive away)

Reply from Aspects Holidays

It really is a stunning location and property, isn't it? While the walk through the dunes to the beach may be a little challenging for those who are less mobile, or with a pushchair for example, for most, this is within an 8-minute walk from the property. It is a lovely walk though and well worth it when you get there, and as you quite rightly say, for those who will struggle with the walk, there are other options within a very short drive. We're glad that you liked it :-) Tanya, Customer Services

Wow… Fair Isle gives you a very big smile on arrival and continues to chip away at any stress you brought with you. The house is perfect. It’s spacious layout, underfloor heating and gorgeous decor and facilities provides just the setting you need for an amazing holiday. You are close to the beautiful beaches, but also you have a feeling of remoteness while staying in the sand dunes - it was a dream come true.

This was a beautiful place to stay. Aspects were really accommodating when there were very extreme weather conditions delaying travel. House was beautifully furnished and could not have been better equipped. A five minute walk to the stunning Gwithian beach and short drive from st Ives. A special break- can’t recommend highly enough.

Overall a brilliant holiday with many non-crowed amazing sandy beaches all nearby. Bring a wetsuit.

Great location with wonderful accommodation. Perfect holiday!

We absolutely loved our stay! The lodge was beautiful and the location was perfect for what we wanted. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Lodge is equipped to a high standard and hot tub is wonderful.

An inventory would have been helpful for us as you literally do not need to bring anything equipment wise.

Would return again. Note that Gwithian Sands is beautiful and unspoilt. However access to the beach is not for those with mobility challenges. Steep sand dunes and journey to beach.

We recommend Fair Isle to anyone who wishes to enjoy easy access to the beach and have the enjoyment of a high quality, luxury house that caters for a very well thought through open planned living arrangement to share.

Very nice modern well appointed lodge in a great location we loved it.

Amazing break, perfect location close to the beach and the accommodation is of the highest standard. We would love to return.
