Here you will find a friendly local pub, three cafes offering delicious refreshments and a surf academy. Being just a short drive to the harbour and beach towns of St IvesPenzanceMouseholePorthleven and Marazion, self catering holidays in Gwithian make for a fun packed holiday for all!

Did you know...

Gwithian forms part of a 3 mile long beach that stretches from Hayle Estuary to Godrevy!

Things to do in Gwithian

Surfing

With great surf all year round, it's no wonder it's a popular surf spot with both locals and visitors. Perfect for beginners and advanced surfers, Gwithian is an ideal place to learn and progress. With a local Surf school operating from here, first timers will be up and riding in no time.

Beaches

Gwithian Towans, Hayle Towans and Godrevy offer three miles of golden sands and the most dramatic coastline stretching across to St Ives Bay. At low tide, with such a vast amount of sand, there is plenty of room for everyone – even horses getting their daily exercise. There are large areas of rock pools and intriguing caves which are great for kids to explore. Visit in the evening and you may be treated to a stunning sunset. Read more about Gwithian Towans and other beaches in the area on our blog. It's also worth visiting the rugged cliffs at Hell's Mouth, which is just a 5 minute drive away, where you can park your car for free and enjoy a delicious cream tea in the cafe.

Foraging

Foraging is popular in Cornwall, and Gwithian Towans offers an ideal place to give it a go. Foraging lessons are available, during which you'll discover everything from how to make seaweed crisps, to picking edible flowers. It's certain to be a fun day out for the whole family. Check out our blog post on Wild Food Walks in Cornwall to find out more.

St Gothian Nature Reserve

What was once a commercial sand quarry, this site has since been declared as a nature reserve. The habitat has been improved with the addition of a large pool and other smaller pools which have been fenced off, creating a safe place for wildfowl and waders. Perfect for bird watching. Dog walkers are asked to keep dogs on a lead so as to not disturb the wildlife.

Walking

From Gwithian, you can walk the South West Coast Path all the way to St Ives, and experience some beautiful scenery along the way. Pass through Hayle and Lelant before finally arriving at St Ives Harbour. The walk takes approximately 6 hours so be sure to bring supplies!

Fantastic house - fantastic location. Clean, comfortable and well designed. Kitchen really well equipped. Beds/bedding lovely. Hot tub sparkling clean and great to relax in. Nice quiet position, whilst being only a sensible stroll to the amazing beach.

Beautiful property, max 10 min walk to beach/ coastal path. Lovely beach cafes along the coastal path. We had some lovely meals in Hayle, but that required a drive.

Portland is a lovely property which has been finished to a high specification and is situated in a quiet location. The hot tub was excellent and we particularly liked where it was positioned away from the other lodges. The staff at Aspects Holidays were very good and always very helpful.

We really enjoyed our stay at Portland. The interior was modern and clean, and had everything we needed. This particular lodge is the first one on the property and set a little apart from the others, which added a little extra privacy. The hot tub is situated away from the other lodges which added to that. The gorgeous Hayle Sands are a 15 minute walk away and provided plenty of space to sunbathe, play games, surf or bodyboard. The waves were great! Sandy Acres is a good base to explore south west Cornwall as many interesting places to visit are within 30/45 minutes’ drive. Thoroughly recommended!

Fabulous stay! Would highly recommend Portland - Sandy Acres. A perfect location to spend Christmas, even with all the rain! Very well thought out accommodation with all the mod cons. Aspects-Holidays were attentive & followed up making the whole process an enjoyable experience.

Thank you!
