November 2024

Our stay at Chy Bean was absolutely perfect for the week and really is a cute little place for 2. Our first time to Mousehole and exploring the many cobbled little streets is just simply stunning. The Mousehole rockpool is an absolute must to visit alongside the cafe which has stunning views. We sat enjoying the best cornish pasty and watched a local seal showing off infront of us. The Ship Inn became our local due to the most delicious food (although not the biggest of menu) and friendliest of staff. The Delis of Mousehole all have the most freshest and local produce, really appreciated the voucher for Mousehole Deli which we put towards some take away products. The walk to Lamorna Cove, simply stunning despite mixed weather and the little cafe is amazing, well deserved after a challenging few miles. Visit to Port Isaac too was beautiful along with a local cornish play at Minnack Theatre, an absolute must if not for the scenery. Whilst there Porthcurno beach breathtaking, though very steep from the car park, again worth it for seal watching. An absolute perfect holiday

Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy harbour views and artisan foods at Mousehole Deli & kitchen, afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

Nice cottage in an excellent location

Wonderfully!

The accomodation was perfect for the two of us, and set in an ideal location. The Old Coastguard is excellent for food, and the local deli shop was lovely. We were very comfortable and would book again!

We have stayed in Chy Bean many times and it never disappoints. Bright and airy, has everything we need. We have also booked through Aspects for many years and their customer service is excellent. Always a prompt response to any issues or queries.

Chy bean made a great spot to relax in Mousehole and explore the bottom of Cornwall. Whilst there is no local parking there is on the road parking just outside Mousehole and it was fairly easy (and not unreasonable) to park in the harbour carpark nearby.

We had a great stay in Chy Bean which is just a few steps from the harbour, deli and pub. There are some lovely places to eat out in the village as well as in Newlyn. The cottage is clean, warm and has a view of the sea from the main bedroom.

Excellent cottage.

We stayed at Chy Bean for three nights. The house was very clean, location fine and Aspects service very good. Ideal for two of three adults (one using bunk bed) or two adults and two small children. We enjoyed our stay and would book again.

Really lovely cottage, good location managed to drive into the village and pull in close to Chy Bean where we could unload and load. Well kept light airy property, will book again.

We loved our stay at Chy Bean. It was a gorgeous cottage, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, cozy, homely and well equipped . We loved the view of the sea and the quaint rooftops from the master bedroom and watching the world go by from the living room. It was in a great location, from where we could explore all of the little streets and amenities. The Deli voucher was a lovely touch, thank you and we came away from Mousehole a little more in love with it than when we arrived. We would like to stay again.

Loved our return to the cottage perfect location very comfortable

This was our second holiday at Chy Bean and we enjoyed this stay just as much as our first time. Great place to unwind and relax.

Lovely cozy cottage, very light and bright. Great location.

Chy Bean is a compact clean and tidy cottage on a through road (there is some traffic noise) providing limited basic fittings and furnishings that is probably only suitable for a couple.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Chy Bean is ideally suited for a couple, but with the double bedroom and a bunk bedroom, it can sleep up to 4. It is a small but very cute and cosy cottage that the owners have completed to a nice standard, but its size will not suit all parties, so we try to show this as best as possible within the website photos. We do hope that this is therefore what you had expected and that you enjoyed your time there. Tanya, Customer Services

Chy Bean is a lovely and well appointed cottage, tastefully decorated with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We have holidayed in Mousehole for about 9 years and it never looses it's charm, it's ideally placed to discover Cornwall or to just sit back and relax. This was our first time staying at Chy Bean but we hope to stay again.

Mrs Clarke

Chy Bean is a clean, bright, well-maintained and cosy cottage with attractive furnishings. It was just the right size for the 3 of us (2 adults and a 7-year-old). The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfy and there is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The cottage is central to all that Mousehole has to offer and there is even a view of the sea from upstairs. We hope to return and would highly recommend Chy Bean to a couple or small family.

Lovely cottage, very comfortable and well equipped. Had a small issue which was resolved straight away after contacting Aspects. Excellent service from themselves and a local repair man. Recommend The Coastguard which has a lovely sea view garden to sit in. Also can’t speak highly enough of The Kings Arms pub up the hill at Paul. So friendly and welcoming and it’s not too to walk to. Look forward to returning to Mousehole in October.

Chy Bean was the perfect little cottage for a long weekend in Mousehole. It was close to everything that Mousehole had to offer. It was very clean, decorated to a high standard and super cosy with the woodburner.

Chy Bean was a perfect little cottage for our family of two, with plenty of facilities - nothing lacking. A fantastic location - just a few seconds from the harbour and the welcoming voucher for Rock Pool Cafe was a very generous gesture. We used it for crab sandwiches and a refreshing drink after doing the Mousehole to Lamorna walk!

Excellent location. Property clean and decorated to a high standard.

Chy Bean is a very cozy and comfortable cottage. The facilities are good and the location is excellent. We enjoyed our time there very much.

Beautiful little cottage, well equipped maintained and comfortable. Clean and cosy - excellent location, look forward to our return.

Accommodation is compact and ideally located. Well equipped and very clean.

Wonderful location right in the centre of Mousehole 1 minute walk to the pretty harbour, beautiful white washed cottage which was really well decorated and equipped for a weeks stay for us as a family and we managed to cook a few nice meals. Beautiful sea views from the main bedroom and we spotted seals one morning!

Absolutely fab property, small but the space is well used on the whole. Extremely clean and well maintained. A lovely light property which is well positioned from the harbour. Lots of little extras and a deli voucher was very thoughtful. The only down side is that the property can only accommodate 2 adults and 2 children and not quite enough comfortable seating for 4. Introducing a small chair in the lounge would resolve this.

Lovely property in a wonderful location a minutes walk from the harbour front. Sea views from the front bedroom window was a real treat to wake up to. Aspects holidays communicated with us lots that we felt confident with our choice of stay.

We had a fantastic holiday at Chy Bean. Waking up to a view of the sea each morning is a tonic and the property is an excellent base for exploring the coast path and surrounding area.

First time staying in Mousehole. Chey Bean was close to car park and only a short walk to the harbour. Excellent meals at the Deli and the restaurant on Fore Street. We didn’t manage to dine at the Ship Inn but menu looked very good. Overall an excellent holiday, found everyone very friendly.

Chy Bean was a lovely cottage in a very well set location. As mentioned in other reviews there isn’t parking directly at the cottage but there is parking all around the harbour for £3 for 24 hours, however I can imagine during peak times to be difficult to find a space.

It was just the two of us and we had plenty of space. The lounge was a perfect place to chill and the log burner warmed up the room beautifully after a long day of walking. The kitchen is small but well equipped with toaster, microwave, kettle and also had an espresso machine. The lounge, master and spare room all have smart TVs which allowed us to watch Netflix. A lovely touch was being able to see the sea from the master window.

Overall was a really good location for exploring nearby towns such as Lands End, St Ives, Kynance Cove and The Minnack Theatre. We also went to Porthtowan which wasn’t too far and had a lovely coastal walk and Sunday lunch at a nearby Eco Cafe at Mount Pleasant Ecological Park.

Really nice touch was the £10 voucher left for us to get something nice from the towns local deli. On the note said they normally left a cream tea but the voucher was better suited to us.

Very nice cottage in a very good location. We enjoyed 7 excellent days in mousehole we would really recommend this cottage.

Chy Bean is a beautifully clean and cosy cottage in the heart of Mousehole. We loved our week there and didn't want to leave!

A well presented property, but more suited to couples and maybe 1 small child. This property is too small for a family of 4 with 2 teenage children. Good location on the quieter side of Mousehole.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We were sorry to hear that you had found this property a little too small for your family. Mousehole is full of lovely traditional fisherman's cottage, like Chy Bean, which are packed full of character and charm. They are often a little smaller and have layouts that are quirkier than in more modern buildings. We always try to be as open and honest as possible with the descriptions and photos, so whilst it can accommodate 4, with a double bedroom and a bunk bedroom; the size of the rooms, layout and seating arrangement may not suit all parties, but it is priced accordingly, taking the size and standard/style of décor into account. It sounds like you still really liked the style of the property, so if you would like any advice on other properties that may offer the additional space, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Chy Bean is a well located and comfortable home in Mousehole. We enjoyed a lovely week there in winter with a terrific log fire to come back to each day, after exploring the wonderful Cornish coast and villages. The house is clean and well appointed and we would be very happy to return again in the future.

Beautiful, clean, well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely recommend. Mousehole itself is magical. Having to park at the harbour and walk to cottage might be an issue for some. We found a space every day (£3 for 24 hours) and it wasn’t a problem for us.

Great location, well maintained and clean property

A lovely cottage in a great location.

Chy Bean is a lovely, comfortable cottage in the heart of the village and an easy wander to the harbour. It has a friendly atmosphere and the cream tea on our arrival was very welcome. The cottage is very well equipped and we enjoyed a very relaxing stay. We'll definitely look to stay here again.
