Jan's Place
Mousehole

£570 - £1056 per week
Book

As the village lights twinkle and the fishing boats set sail for their nightly catch, sip a refreshing gin and tonic on the terrace, under a blanket of stars in the midnight blue sky. Sleeping two, with parking and accepting one pet, Jan's Place is perched above the picturesque village of Mousehole, making the most of its elevated position. Wake from a peaceful slumber in the king size bed and enjoy freshly brewed coffee as you watch the morning haze of summer mist the horizon, with a promise of a scorching hot day ahead. With calming interiors, Jan's Place is exquisitely furnished and is a perfect, romantic bolthole for two. Its name derives from the owners' family member and author Jan, who years ago, would sit there, putting pen to paper and writing books inspired by the breath taking views and melting sunsets.

The short stroll downhill leads to the heart of Mousehole. Spend lazy days with toes dipped in the warm golden sand of one of Mousehole's beaches with a good book in hand. Gently glide on a paddleboard on the crystal-clear waters or take a refreshing dip in the sea before enjoying a picnic lunch together. While away afternoons perusing the gift shops, galleries and delicatessens. Enjoy fine dining at The Old Coastguard or the vibrant 2 Fore Street on the harbour. Follow the coastal path to Lamorna and enjoy a paddle in the Cove. Stroll along beside the sea to the neighbouring busy fishing port of Newlyn and purchase fresh fish to prepare a mouthwatering supper. Enjoy a swim in the geothermally heated Jubilee Pool on the Promenade in Penzance, or catch a show at the incredible Minack Theatre after basking on the powdery white sands of Porthcurno Beach. With surfing at Sennen Cove and several tropical gardens just a short drive away too, there is so much to explore. After a weary day of adventures, head home to relax and unwind in the comfort of Jan's Place; a perfect choice for a romantic getaway and somewhere you will want to return to year after year.

Absolutely beautiful and spotless on arrival, and one of the comfiest beds I have ever had the fortune to sleep in! Wonderful services are nearby, including good food at The Ship Inn, as well as local produce at the nearby Delis! Very near a bus stop as well for the local service for any more shopping needs, and goes direct to Penzance and Newlyn where the major supermarkets are located. Highly recommended!

Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy harbour views and artisan foods at Mousehole Deli & kitchen, afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Top tip

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

This is a beautiful accomadation, decorated and furnished to the highest specifcations. The view is amazing to the sea and harbour. It was so lovely to sit out at night and just relax. There is everything you need and more to self cater. The owners have thought of everything and the extra touches were really appreciated.

Beautiful and comfortable place to stay with an incredible view down into mouse hole and the sea. For the most part the kitchen was very well stocked with everything I needed including some nice welcoming gifts and the whole place was presented amazingly on arrival

Unfortunately cannot recommend for anyone not staying as an extended party with people in the accommodation above due to there being quite a bit of noise bleeding through between the two accommodations

Other than that I had a perfect stay and loved exploring the local area (especially Logan’s Rock and Porthcurno) and would happily book again!

Thank you for your review; it's great to hear your whole family were able to come together and enjoy their time in Jan's Place and Cair Kinan. Whilst apartments can come with a risk of hearing some noise from surroundings properties, this is not something that has been raised as an issue in this property before. Thank you for bringing this to our attention; we will closely monitor further feedback on this. We hope we will be able to welcome you all back again soon. Phoebe, Customer Services

Jan's Place is highly recommended. It is in a quiet location with great views over Mousehole and a very short walk into the village. Very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Added bonus of off-street parking

Nicky and Mark This is a wonderful place to stay. The location is great, especially at Christmas with all the Harbour Lights. The accommodation is of a very high standard and we loved all the little extras. We were impressed with how immaculate the property was on arrival and how well-equipped the kitchen is- great if you love cooking. The super king bed was the most comfortable ever. We would give this property a 5 * rating and highly recommend it if you plan a stay in Cornwall.

Everybody needs to visit this property , an absolute gem we will be back . Mousehole is fantastic as is this property
