Holidays in Sennen

Sennen is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt areas of Cornwall, famous for its unique location and beauty. Sennen is one of Cornwall's most popular surf spots, and its rugged scenery and many coves provide the perfect place to explore on a self catering holiday.

Sennen is the most westerly parish in the UK, nestled between Cape Cornwall and Land's End. Part of the village; the mediaeval church of St. Sennen with its low granite tower, the school, and the First & Last Inn are at the top of the cliff; with some older cottages 300 feet below by the quay, along with the Old Success, a seventeenth-century inn.

Sennen Cove is still a fishing village and home of Sennen Lifeboat. Established in 1853, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution`s Sennen Cove Station is situated just one mile northeast of Land’s End.

If you want to spot a bit of wildlife during your holiday in Sennen, basking sharks and dolphins are a common sight off the coast of Sennen. Join our friends in the water and head to Sennen Cove which is renowned for its great surf and friendly atmosphere. Or take a drive to Gwenver Beach, less than a mile from Sennen Cove and watch the sunset - a truly spectacular sight. Read more about Sennen holidays and Gwenver beach on our blog post about Sandy beaches in West Cornwall.

Top tip

Spend the festive season in Sennen and take part in the annual Christmas day swim!

Surfing in Sennen

Sennen is a prime location for surfing in Cornwall. With swell coming in from the Atlantic, the surf is good all year round and can be better than the more crowded surfing destinations such as Newquay. With two surf schools based at Sennen you'll be in good hands when it comes to learning the ropes.

Beach & coastal walks

Take a walk along the coast from Land's End to the beautiful and hidden Nanjizel beach; one of Cornwall's most spectacular beaches. Porthcurno is also only a short drive away with its beautiful beaches and the breathtaking Minack Theatre, showing regular outdoor performances throughout the summer months.

South from Sennen Cove you can walk the coastal path to Land’s End. Just over a mile as the chough flies, but all along the south-west coastal path you must allow for the uphill stretches and twisty bits of headland which make the walks longer.

Whitesand Bay, white as the name suggests, stretches northwards from Sennen Cove to Gwynver beach. Gwynver is accessible from Whitesand at low tide; and down steep steps from Trevedra Cliff at high tide. On New Year’s Day it’s become a bit of a tradition for hardy folk to jump into the Whitesand waves for a swim. The south-west coastal footpath runs along Whitesand behind the dunes. No dogs are allowed on the beach between 15th May and the 30th September, between 10am and 6pm.

Although it feels tucked away in the far west, Sennen self catering holidays are perfect for exploring West Penwith.

Things to do near Sennen

Roundhouse & Capstan Gallery
A unique circular gallery and converted netloft. It was originally used for housing a winch to haul boats up from the beach. Visit www.round-house.co.uk for more info.

Longships Lighthouse
The iconic Longships Lighthouse sits on Carn Bras, the biggest in a ribbon of jagged rocks just offshore. It appears curiously tall when seen from the road approaching Land's End. Just for a moment Longships seems to have landed at the holiday complex but it's all an illusion of topography. The galleon and helicopter might be set in cement in Land’s End square but the lighthouse is exactly where it should be, a mile off shore.

Land’s End:
Sennen Church is about a mile from the Land’s End Visitor Centre, where you can find Land’s End Hotel & restaurant, First & Last House, shops, cafe, exhibitions. It is famed for the signpost, at which you can have your photograph taken as one arm says Land’ End and the other your home town. There are weekly firework displays, special events and family entertainment. The best approach to the complex is via the coastal path, the sea views are magnificent. On an overcast day the visitor centre has much to occupy children.

Apple Tree Café, Trevescan
When self catering in Sennen, a place not to be missed is The Apple Tree Café at Trevescan, a left turn just before Land’s End. Home of Nick’s delicious home-made bread. It’s family friendly, amazing cakes, tea garden. A perfect place to meet before walking or after walking or probably before and after.

From the Apple Tree Cafe, you can walk into Land’s End; you can walk across the fields to the coastal path. All you need is the O/S Pathfinder or O/S Explorer 7 (Land’s End, Penzance and St Ives). If you can find one, get a copy of a book called ‘West of HayleRiver’ by Gerald and Sylvia Priestland. It is brim-full of walks, pictures and information about places and legends across the whole of West Penwith.

Farmers' Market
Every Tuesday, Sennen holds its very own farmers' market, perfect for stocking up on local produce when staying in a self catering cottage. Find out more on our blog: The Best Farmers’ Markets in West Cornwall

We keep coming back to this house because of the wonderful sense of space, the light and the view. It’s always a treat.

We had a lovely time house was amazing. Thank you

Spent a week at Rosevear in August. Great location, plenty of space, well equipped. Have booked for 2025!

Ein wunderschönes Haus mit geschmackvoller Einrichtung. Schön angelegtes Hanggrundstück. Der Blick aus den großen Panoramafenstern ist jeden Tag aufs Neue "unbeschreiblich".

Outstanding views from the property. Be careful when walking down the steps to the property as there isn’t a handrail. Take basic items such as milk etc. as the nearest shop is quite a walk down to the seafront. The walk along the coastal path to Lands End is very good and an easy walk.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Those panoramic views really are breathtaking! Rosevear certainly is a great base to explore the far west of Cornwall. Being in such a fantastic location on the hillside in Sennen and making the most of those views, there is a steep walk down to the beach with several external steps to the property. We try to detail this as best as possible, so guests know what to expect, but the additional information about the handrail is certainly useful for others to bear in mind. Thank you for highlighting that, and we hope you agree that the climb is worth it once you enter this lovely property and see those views. Lucy, Customer Services

We had a lovely two weeks in Rosevear. The weather was awful but there is no location better for enjoying the dramatic weather and scenery.

Rosevear is in a fabulous location with fantastic views. We had several maintenance issues which were mostly resolved quickly by the Aspects team. It is worth noting there is only one ‘main shower’ as the other two are hand held which may not suit everyone.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so pleased you had a lovely stay, and that you enjoyed those breathtaking views! Thank you for your patience while we worked to fix these maintenance issues during your holiday, we appreciate you letting us know and allowing us to get these sorted quickly so your stay could get back on track. As you have mentioned, two of the bathrooms have baths with shower attachments, but the shower room has a lovely rainfall shower if you prefer this option. There's certainly an option for all preferences! We hope we can welcome you back to Cornwall again soon. Katy, Customer Services.

Beautiful house in a stunning location ,breathtaking views, not ideal for families with young children as no safety barrier to the rear of the property due to the high location. Sennen cove is a wonderful place to stay with plenty of superb walks and a very clean sandy beach You will keep the views for a long time We really enjoyed our stay and was sad to leave

We have stayed at Rosevear for 4 previous years and have booked it for 2024 and reserved it for 2025.l think that indicates what a fantastic property it is with all its amenities and views, not forgetting the beach, which is child friendly

Rosevear is a very special house. The views are wonderful, the garden is magical and the access to the footpaths is great.

A wonderfully positioned holiday home overlooking Sennen Cove, fabulous views! We stayed at the property in mid December and sadly the property was very cold. Admittedly it was a cold week but the lack of radiators meant that we were uncomfortable for the duration of our stay. It was a good job we brought Oodies and thermal blankets! The property would be brilliant in the summer but not for a winter break.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

It's great to hear you enjoyed the great views from Rosevear, though we are sorry that you found the property to be cold. There are radiators throughout the property, but had we known that you were cold during your stay both ourselves and the owner would have been more than happy to help with this. As you mentioned, we have been experiencing very cold weather as of late, but we would still expect the heating to be keeping you warm during your stay. We will certainly keep an eye on this as we haven't received reports of this before but thank you for your feedback. Katy, Customer Services.

I would thoroughly recommend Aspect holidays Efficient helpful and caring team … and they have some wonderful properties .

Two weeks in the most heavenly location, with the finest views imaginable.

Spectacular property in a spectacular location. Had everything you could want and need. Location was great easy walk to beach. The views from this property have to be seen to be believed!!!

A beautiful house overlooking Sennen Cove, with stunning views especially if you get great weather like we did! A nice family living space which gives plenty of room for everyone to chill out and also enjoy a big family meal. They're not kidding about the steps - this is not a house for toddlers or people with mobility issues! The beach is beautiful, but a good 15 min walk down the side of the hill. We enjoyed that - but if walking is a problem, probably not so good.

The view from this property surpassed expectations. Lots of amazing walks and beaches to explore. Highlight of the holiday was learning to surf on Sennen Beach, with the excellent Sennen Smart Surf School. We will definitely be back

Rosevear, what can I say? The view will leave you speechless! Its a wonderful house for a relaxing break. There is somewhere to sit and waste hours looking out to see and just watching the sea break. The house has catered for all ages with books and games, which are great for a wet day at home. There are lots of things to do in the local area, coastal walks and a short walk to lands end. We hired wet suits and boards from the surf hut on the beach and spent the rest of the day splashing about. We can't wait to visit again.

This is a gorgeous, well-equipped house with a homely feel and amazing views. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic location with amazing views.
House needs a few issues sorting out and brought up to the standard required by Aspects Holidays. Unfortunately there was building work being done on a property immediately behind Rosevear which impacted our holiday significantly, had we known beforehand, we would have asked for an alternative property.

We loved our stay. The view is even better than the photos, which made it hard to leave the house! It had everything we needed for an amazing weeks stay. We will definitely be looking to book again in the future and all our family and friends, after seeing our photos, want to book too.

A beautiful place in a beautiful setting. We could not have been happier with the set up of the house, and the view was outstanding. The house was clean and very comfortable with lots of space to spread out. We felt completely spoilt by both the house and the view, and were treated to amazing sunrises and sunsets during our stay. It is a steep walk down to the beach but totally worth it and there is parking if you prefer to drive down. You can also have a lovely walk to Land’s End. Will definitely be looking to book again in the future - we will be hard pushed to find somewhere as good as this.

Lovely house with exquisite views.
