Holidays in Crantock

Crantock is a beautiful area just outside Newquay and offers everything you need for a holiday by the sea; a beautiful sandy beach, eateries close by and coastal walks on the doorstep.

Situated to the Western side of the Gannel Estuary, Crantock is ideally located for a peaceful holiday, just a stone's throw from Newquay.  Enjoy a relaxing holiday within easy reach of the beautiful beach.

Not far from the beach, you'll find Crantock Village, a small but popular village, dating back to 460 AD, founded by Irish Hermits. The local pub, The Albion Inn, with its fascinating history is well worth a visit. Find out more about it here.

Top tip

Bring your pooches with you because Crantock is super dog-friendly!

Beaches

Owned and looked after by the National Trust, Crantock beach offers a large expanse of golden sands, backed by rolling dunes. The beach stretches between Pentire and West Pentire headlands. To the South, the sands are lined with high cliffs, providing shelter from the winds and to the North lies the mouth of the River Gannel.

At high tide, the Fern Pit Gannel Ferry, 'Sunshine', will take you from the beach across the river; at low tide, a small footbridge will appear allowing you to cross the river for free. The River Gannel is popular with paddle boarders and wild water swimmers.

The National Trust car park has ample space and is free of charge for National Trust members. Dogs are welcome all year on Crantock beach.

Just beyond West Pentire, you'll find Porth Joke beach (also known as Poly Joke beach) a smaller, quieter beach. With rock pools and caves, this beach is perfect for explorers of all ages. The car park is a fair walk away, but well worth the effort for the peaceful sands.

Things to do in Crantock

In Crantock, you can relax on the quiet beach or explore the quaint village, filled with thatched cottages. If you're feeling more adventurous, you can try a range of water sports such as paddle boarding with Newquay Water Sports Centre

Aside from the glorious golden sands and picturesque village of Crantock, you can head to West Pentire to the C-Bay hotel which has tennis courts, a swimming pool and is dog friendly.

Further afield, Newquay has an array of activities on offer. For a family-friendly activity, Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium make a great day out. For something slightly different, head to Pirate's Quest for a swashbuckling voyage through Cornwall's past. Read our blog here for more ideas on days out in Newquay

Berwyn is a great place to stay. Very spacious, and very well furnished and fitted.

Aspect gave excellent service and support in booking our holiday rental.

These guys know what they are doing to give you a hassle free holiday in spotless, well equipped accommodation. Any problem is rapidly responded to and dealt with. Would have no hesitation to recommend their properties having used them over various sites for the last 8+ years.

Berwyn is a fantastic property with lots of space and every amenity that we needed. It's beautifully decorated and the bathrooms and the kitchen are very well equipped and are finished to a high standard. As always, the standard of customer service from Aspect was excellent. We have been before, we enjoyed our time in 2023, and I'm sure that we will be visiting again!

This house periods from the 17th century. The bathrooms and the kitchen have recently been refurbished with top of the range quality products. The dining room and ground floor lighting would benefit similar. A great location and well equipped, the new oven needs some baking trays we purchased our own. Would stay there again .

This well equipped house was a great place for a large group to get together. The beautiful local beach was quite a long walk away but easily accessible by car. We would be happy to stay again.

The house is large with comfortable beds. Unfortunately, we had issues with appliances which were not resolved until the end of our holiday.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so sorry that it took a while to get this resolved. Unfortunately, sometimes things go wrong, as they do in our own homes, but the team will always do everything possible to get these rectified straight away. Often trades are sent the same day and if they can fix it there and then, they do, but unfortunately, the timescales can be dependent on availability of parts, trade availability and getting the owners authorisation, so there can sometimes be delays. We are sorry for any inconvenience and hope that you still enjoyed it here. Tanya, Customer Services

A homely property, great for families. Parking a bit tight but we managed to park 2 cars and a pick-up. Crantock and Poly Joke beaches are fantastic. The children's playground and recreation ground by the village hall are also excellent.

Crantock is a lovely village and a beautiful beach, the village has some lovely eateries, specifically I would mention the Jam Jar for daytime, Cornishman for a good welcome meal. Down towards Crantock beach is The Bowgie Inn and C-Bay Cafe, both of which are great too.

The property was in a great location, a lovely old property with original features and enough space for a large group. Cleanliness needed to be addressed at the property for our stay and some home comfort touches could be considered given the price of the stay. The enclosed garden is good for dogs.

Definitely a good bolt home for your holiday as close enough to everything to mean you can leave the car at home!

We are glad to hear that you had such a lovely time here, though sorry if any areas were not cleaned to the high standards that you or we would expect. We can only apologise if any areas had been missed and please rest assured that your feedback has been passed on to the owner and their housekeeper. Thank you for your comments. Tanya, Customer Services

As usual with Aspects, property was spotless on arrival, and the very minor problems we had in the two weeks were immediately assessed and dealt with, despite losing 3 members of their cleaning staff that week. The kitchen was well equipped for self catering/cooking, and the garden perfect for our dog Paddy as it had a lot of shade in what was 2 weeks of sunshine. The photos on the website are misleading in that there was a lot more space to the property than appeared and our two famillies never felt on top of each other. 20 mins walk to the beach but access via the dunes very steep. Brilliant holiday from a brilliant company.

We had incredible time staying at Berwyn! The beach is a really short walk away and the village has a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. The gorgeous house was immaculate and had everything we needed - we certainly made the most out of the barbecue! Newquay and Perranporth were just a couple of places we visited with lots of stuff to keep us entertained for the week. We are already thinking about returning next summer :) thank you so much for such a wonderful stay x

Berwyn Crantock. A lovely 5 bed spacious house. Well equipped. We asked for a travel cot and it was good quality. We were told there wasn't a bbq but there is a rather old charcoal one. We had an issue with the extremely hot water in the main shower. Problem reported but plumber didn't manage to fix it. Space for 2 cars off road parking. Difficult to park otherwise as on a busy Rd. Lovely village with great pubs and a useful albeit small Londis. Not an easy walk to the beach and steep uphill back to house. Not very buggy friendly.! We went in June. National trust car park full by 10am on nice day. Beautiful beach. Lovely coastal path walks. Overall we enjoyed our holiday but not peak season.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your feedback. The hot water issue has been investigated further and now all seems to be working as you would expect. We are sorry that this was a problem while you were there, but glad to hear that you otherwise enjoyed everything there. It is a very popular area in the main part of the season, so parking can be difficult to find, so the 2 spaces provided at this property are a huge bonus. For those who don't fancy the walk to the beach which is approximately 10-15 minutes, there is a car park, but you are quite right in saying that it fills up quickly, so best to get down there early to avoid disappointment! Tanya, Customer Services

Great and spacious holiday cottage in a fantastic location with easy walking access to the village and the beach.

Absolutely lovely cottage great location within walking distance from the beach. Really comfortable and spacious everything we needed! Made some wonderful happy memories we will all cherish for years to come.

The Cornishman a must .A good Bus route and Walks

Wonderful location, so close to a beautiful beach, two pubs, a shop and a great playground! Nice garden, lots of living space and great sized bedrooms. Stair gates were a surprise bonus which really helped with the dog. Would highly recommend and would happily return.

Lovely spacious home in a wonderful location . The weather could have been better but that was solved by staying an extra two nights when the weather picked up. Aspects where really helpful to ask the owners if we could extend our stay. Really excellent customer services. We will be back next year.

Great location, large roomy house

We recently stayed at Berwyn in Crantock and would highly recommend. The property had everything we needed and was decorated to a high standard with beautiful furnishings. Crantock was a beautiful friendly little village with a fabulous beach and ideal for families and dogs. Will definitely return

We absolutely loved this property! Enough room for all 10 of us to live comfortably for 10 days without getting in eachothers way. This was due to the snug room, dining room and sun room. Great that there was also enough toilets and shower rooms to accomodate a large family. Nice garden, balcony and good that there was parking for our cars. Overall, a fabulous time had by all and we would definitely return to this village and accomodation.
