Tucked away in a charming cobbled and tree-lined residential square close to the centre of Penzance, this charming and quirky Victorian terraced home is a real find. Perfect for a romantic retreat, the large four poster bed is the perfect excuse for some together time in one of the most romantic parts of the UK. Decorated in a nautical theme, natural wood is used extensively throughout the house. Seascape paintings, a carved staircase, beamed ceilings and panelling in the sitting room all give a very warm and cosy feeling. You don't have to wander very far for entertainment either as the square has its own micro brewery.

Very comfortable small house in a great location. Not good for cooking, otherwise I’ll recommend it.
Mrs Kucharska June 2024
Amazing holiday home in perfect location. Parking outside was a godsend. Rooms were comfortable, bath and shower with plenty of hot water, and all mod cons in the kitchen. There is literally everything you need and we didn't want to leave. Will definitely be back in the future and cannot recommend highly enough. Also just to mention we stayed over the Christmas period and the place was decorated for this beautifully. Thankyou for a fantastic break.
Mrs Nicholson December 2023
Sitting in the corner of a sheltered and attractive bay, the UK’s most westerly town has been a popular resort since the Napoleonic wars when the wealthier English people were cut off from the continent and searched closer to home for fresh air and the newly discovered benefits of sea-bathing. The temperature in Penzance is always a little warmer than elsewhere meaning sub-tropical plants grow well in Morrab Gardens and in the gardens on St. Michael’s Mount. It also means balmy days on one of the nearby beaches are always calling.
Penzance is great for short breaks out of season and there are many boating trips from the harbour that will take you to explore the West Coast from the sea. Due to its excellent road and rail links, Penzance holidays offer something for everyone with lots to see and do. It’s also within a stone’s throw of some of the prettiest places to visit in Cornwall, which are always worth exploring during your stay.
Penzance has secret treats too if you take the time to explore. For a start, the very best way to see Penzance is by the alleys and walkways, the through-lanes from here to there. Take a day to discover the town this way and you will uncover its beautiful parks as well as its Regency and Georgian architecture.
Penzance also benefits from a wonderful community and comes alive throughout the year with different events and traditions that add waves of colour and music to the seaside town.
Penzance has one of the mildest climates in the UK!
From coastal walks to castles, and swimming pools to sandy beaches, these days out around Penzance are the ultimate way to enjoy your stay in West Cornwall.
With Mount’s Bay providing a beautiful alcove of beaches and the surrounding Penwith coast showing off exactly what west Cornwall has to offer, beach days in Penzance are always on the agenda.
Longrock Beach – Nestled halfway between Marazion and Penzance, this long stretch of sand is great for families. The water remains quite shallow, making it ideal for those who aren’t confident swimmers as well as windsurfers.
Marazion Beach – There are few views from the beach as impressive as Marazion where your beach day benefits from the impressive St Michael’s Mount standing guard over the bay. Stroll across the causeway at low tide, explore the rockpools or tuck into a fish and chips on the rocks.
Perranuthnoe Beach – With a beach café that serves delicious homemade cakes and ice creams, and a ramp for easy access, Peranuthnoe is popular with locals and visitors alike. The expanse of sand, which is second to none for sandcastles, means there’s plenty of room for everyone.
Stay in a self catering cottage in Penzance and you’re perfectly situated to explore the surrounding towns and villages, each with their own individual characters and charm. Literally minutes from Penzance is the fishing port of Newlyn while a little further on you’ll find the quaint village of Mousehole with its harbourside bistro, community atmosphere and famous Christmas lights. Take a stroll along the coast to Marazion beach or venture in the opposite direction to the beautiful Lamorna Cove. For more ideas, check out our blog post on days out around Penzance.
Jubilee Pool
This beautiful art-deco open-air bathing pool is the UK’s largest seawater lido. There is also an excellent café and a delightfully warm geothermal pool. The pool opens from the end of May until September. Even in winter, some hardy year-round swimmers use battery rocks (just north of Jubilee Pool) for their daily dip!
Parks and gardens
Morrab Garden is a sub-tropical garden in the heart of Penzance with Victorian fountains and a bandstand, which still plays host to concerts in the summer. The Morrab Library sits in the gardens and is an absolute joy with its wonderful photographic archives and collections. Full of trees and squirrels, Penlee Park has a specific dog-free and child-friendly play area making it ideal for families.
Art galleries
Penlee House Art Gallery & Museum (with an excellent café) sits opposite the Penlee open-air theatre and is home to a large collection of Newlyn School paintings as well as more contemporary works. Along the various streets and alleys lie many other superb galleries featuring a mix of local and national artists. Further afield, you have the renowned Newlyn Exchange and the wondrous Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, which is home to many incredible sculptures throughout its grounds. Or, if you want to create your own art, why not embark on one of Penwith’s popular painting holidays to really make the most of Cornish scenery.
Shopping in Penzance
Not all town centres have the beautiful granite terrace and arcade steps, the iron railings; or retain the architecture of previous generations above the modern shop frontages that Penzance enjoys. There are many Georgian and early Victorian facades just above eye-level in Penzance giving a really unique backdrop to your shopping. By way of shops, you’ll find everything from boutiques to big names as well as delis and food shops that are jam-packed with tempting, locally sourced treats.
Walks
Penzance, with its recently resurfaced prom and surrounding coastline, is perfectly placed to enjoy some stunning Cornish walks. The further to the west you go, the more rugged and captivating the coastline – although be warned, in Penwith, the more beautiful the view, the steeper the trek to reach it! Our favourite stretch has to be between Mousehole all the way along to the Minack Theatre, which provides days upon days of incredible coastal walks. During your treks, make sure to keep an eye out for some of Cornwall’s ancient sites, which can be found scattered around the wild landscape.
Eating out
Penzance self-catering holidays are perfect; Chapel Street leads up from the harbour to the town centre where you will find a range of restaurants and pubs as well as independent shops and houses of historic interest and importance. Lavenders Deli on Alverton Street is ideal for stocking up on treats for your holiday cottage. Check out our blog on places to eat in Penzance for ideas on where to refuel.
Dog-friendly Penzance
With the sights and smells of the nearby beaches and plenty of dog-friendly pubs (Admiral Benbow is particularly popular with dogs and people alike), Penzance is a wonderful place for a dog-friendly holiday in Cornwall. There are also some great dog-friendly beaches nearby so you can enjoy a proper romp in the sand with your furry best friend.
Golowan Festival – Happening every year towards the end of June, Penzance’s Golowan Festival (also known as Mazey Day) is a bright and cheerful celebration of midsummer and promises an array of colour, music and festivities. Watch the parade of intricate puppets that dance through the streets, cheer on the Morris dancers and browse your way through the collection of stalls that sell everything from jewellery to mouth-watering foods.
Penzance Literary Festival - One for all the bookworms out there, the Penzance Literary Festival in July celebrates words in all forms from written to spoken to sung! Come along and catch the many performances, take part in literary discussions and even try your hand at creating your own stuff with the many workshops that take place.
Christmas in Penzance – With Christmas lights turning the whole stretch of coast between St Michael’s Mount and Mousehole into a glittering display, a jovial walk (or drive) is always a great way to get in the festive spirit. In town, you’ll find shop windows awash with intricate displays that tie in with a chosen theme as businesses from all over the town take part in an annual Christmas competition to dazzle shoppers. Santa never misses Penzance when doing the rounds, as you can always find him sitting happily in his grotto during the light switch on. Fairs, processions, and costumed antics take place throughout December, so you’re always in for a spectacle or two when you visit at Christmas.
Literally at the end of the line, Penzance is well-placed for holiday makers that prefer the train to a car. For those wanting to tour Mount’s Bay on foot (or on two wheels), there is a superb path that runs right the way along from Marazion to Mousehole, making excellent use of the promenade in Penzance. You can often find food vans along the prom, allowing for a quick refuel with a view during your jaunt. For those with a car, there are numerous car parks around the town as well as in the surrounding villages so you can enjoy Penwith by foot, car, bike or even boat!
We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. Very comfortable small house in a great location. Not good for cooking, otherwise I’ll recommend it.
Mrs Kucharska Jul 2024
Fab location in the town centre with parking. All furniture was comfortable and in good condition If you like to read in bed either take a reading light or do not use the 4 poster room- it is lovely and comfortable but not light enough to read in bed, even with all lights on. I would recommend this rental we had a great week and were so close to the quay for the Scillonian ferry it would have been a shame not to go. It was well worth the fare. We hope to return to this rental it is good value for money and is very well presented.

We are so pleased you had a great stay at Trevarthen, and that you made the most of being in the area and enjoyed a visit to the Isles of Scilly! Thank you for your feedback regarding the light levels in the 4-poster bedroom, this has been passed across to the owner to take into consideration for any future improvements to the property. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know. Katy, Customer Services.

Perfect location in Penzance for all amenities. Hardly used the car. Beautiful house with beautiful furnishings. Less than 5 minutes from bus and train station. Only about 10 minutes from ferry for Isles of Scilly.
Mr Foley Sep 2023
A comfortable, well equipped cottage in a very convenient location for the town centre and public transport. I look forward to return visits!
Mr Higton Sep 2023
Overall very good .
Mrs Semple Jul 2023
Property was very well presented, everything you could need for a self catering holiday. Parking was really useful, as it was just outside the property. The little extras, such as the cream tea and basics of tea/coffee and milk etc was very well received. Everything we needed was on the doorstep, we enjoyed our stay.
Mrs Rees May 2023
This was our second visit to Trevarthen, I hadn’t been quite sure as I was disappointed in the kitchen equipment last visit, but my husband loved the house (one minute to a good pub…) so I said ok.
Well, the kitchen is still tiny, no avoiding that, but it’s all new, all the equipment I needed is there, we had a lovely holiday.
The light paint on the internal woodwork was much appreciated too, so much brighter.
I’m sure we will be back.
Mrs Kucharska May 2023
Lovely place to stay.
Mrs Young May 2023
The property is cosy and homely. Beautiful bathroom. Kitchen is small but suited our needs well, everything you needed. Excellent parking space. It is very close to centre, within walking distance to shops etc.. We have been to Penzance every year for over 10 years so know areas well. Please note there is a pub very close to property, which is nice for an evening drink, but also can be loud in an evening if weather warm and want window open. But usually only till 10-11pm.

Thank you for your comments and so glad to hear that you liked it here. Being in such a fantastic central location, you may hear some of the hustle and bustle of the town at times, but it is perfect for being able to just step out the door and be right in the heart of the town, on or the promenade, and with the parking space, it is perfect for those who want to get out and about to explore some of the stunning coastline here in West Cornwall. We are glad that you had another great visit to Penzance and hopefully we will see you back again soon. Tanya, Customer Services
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this lovely convenient cottage full of character and charm within a square where parking is not a problem.
The staff at Aspects were lovely and it was a pleasure to meet Paul the landlord
Mrs Bell Jul 2022
Accommodation in quiet square and within 5 minuets walk of train and bus station, includes car permit. Owner supplied fresh fresh flowers, fresh fruit and scones with jam and marmalade plus milk in fridge. Although a compact house it has a good size down stairs bathroom.

Mr Proctor Jun 2022
Lovely Victorian house with modern kitchen and bathroom and everything you need. Good location, a few minutes walk to shops and sea front and not too far to drive to lots of places to visit.
Mrs Hyatt Jun 2022
This cottage was was perfect for myself and friend as we used the local busses to get around Cornwall, the cottage was a 5-10 minute walk from the train and bus station. The busses were always on time and a great way to get around. Penzance is so central to that part of Cornwall with all the amenities you could wish for.
Ms McGoldrick Nov 2021
Trevarthen is a lovely little house in a Victorian square, furnished comfortably. The living room doesn’t get much sun ( in autumn anyway) but is very cosy. Both bedrooms are very comfortable, the front is sunny, the back has a four poster bed. The Kitchen is really tiny, but adequate depending on how much cooking you want to do, I do like to cook, but ended up eating out most nights. There is a good washing machine but no dryer. The bathroom has a good shower & bath. We were given plenty of towels. We liked the position of the house, five minutes from Market Jew Street & one minute from The Crown, an excellent brew-pub. We probably will come back as we did like it overall.
Mrs Kucharska Oct 2021
For us, it is ideal. Am impressed by the fact that the owner has not jumped on the bandwagon of inflating his prices because of the pandemic and Cornwall becoming the place to go. Always good value for money, this part of the world never disappoints.
Mr Gregory Sep 2021
Had an amazing two weeks in this lovely cozy cottage, very clean and well kept. This property now has WIFi which was a nice surprise, excellent location right by train and bus station, 2 minutes walk to shop all you need on your door step. Free parking outside the cottage a wonderful welcome package on arrival, wine, clotted cream scones and fresh flowers. A lovely quiet area, definitely recommend a stay here, could not fault anything. Thanks for a wonderful stay home from home.
Mrs Mountford Aug 2021

Mr. Young Jul 2021
A lovely cozy property in the heart of Penzance with everything you would need for a break away. It was clean and we'll kept, with a lovely welcome package of wine, clotted cream, scones and fresh flowers in the living room. It really made you feel home from home.

We are sorry to hear that you found it a little too cluttered for your taste. The owners have decorated in a way that they hope offers a cosy and homely feel and so we try to show this as well as possible within the photos, so we are sorry if this was not quite what you had expected. We will pass on the feedback for the owner's consideration, so thank you for taking the time to send in your thoughts, it is really appreciated. We hope that you had a great time and hopefully we will see you back in Cornwall again. Tanya, Customer Services
Just returned from a week stay here and it was lovely. The location of the cottage was perfect, 2 min walk from the train station and walking distance to all the amenities! The cottage had a lovely arrival gift of cream tea & a nice bottle of pinot! The beds weren't the comfiest unfortunately but we made do. Would definitely stay here again!

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear how much you enjoyed Trevarthen though sorry that you found the mattress uncomfortable. It can be very difficult to find a mattress that will suit everyone and it is disappointing to hear that it was not to your preference. This is not something that has been raised here before, so we will monitor comments to keep an eye on guests preferences over the coming months. Thanks again. Lucy, Customer Services
The location of this property is lovely as it is on a quiet square in Penzance which is close to the main high street and train station. Unfortunately after making our booking the washer / dryer listed on the cottage details was removed and replaced with a standard washing machine but other than the clothes line outside we had no where else to dry our clothes and towels until we received an airer a few days into our stay. The cottage is small which is fine if you have access to a dryer or sunshine everyday so you can hang clothes outside but using an airer to dry clothes took a long time and left things smelling musty and beach towels just never dried. The shower was also completely blocked which we reported on the Monday but still hadn't been fixed by the time we left on Saturday.
Mrs Jane Aug 2020
Reply from Aspects Holidays
Thank you for your review. We can only apologise that after you booked the property, we had to inform you of the owner's decision to replace the current washer/dryer, with a standard washing machine. We can appreciate that the lack of dryer caused some inconvenience to your stay and we will be sure to pass this over to the owners to review. We are also very sorry to read that the shower was blocked and that this was still not rectified for you. That is not the level of service that we would usually deliver. If a maintenance issue is reported, we will do everything that we can to get that rectified asap, so we can only apologise. We will investigate further how this happened to try and ensure that we do not make such an error again. We hope that you still had a wonderful holiday and sorry again. Ben, Customer Services
really comfortable, nice welcome package, easy access to town and all of west Cornwall could not fault anything.
